A military intervention to oust Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro remains “a very serious option” for the United States, according to President Trump’s national security team.
“Obviously, that’s a result that no one would like to see but clearly one that is seriously considered as events unfold,” a senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters Friday evening.

Trump always keeps these things “on the table”, but it would be folly to actually go there. It is exactly what Maduro and Putin want. As soon as US troops arrive, they become the enemy, and Maduro has “Yankee Invaders” that he can point at as the enemy of Venezuela. We will NOT be seen as heroes down there if we send troops.
Give the rebels political and humanitarian support, maybe even some intel and equipment. Let Russia or China send troops to try to prop up Maduro, then THEY can be seen as the enemy of the revolution, and the entire country will turn against THEM.
