The hopping is about to accelerate. I've been delegated to an effort to preserve Amtrak's national network trains as part of my existing job. This will be a challenge, but I'm working on ideas that may give the network a few more years of life.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.

We made it to the weekend! Lots of resting for you.

You’d mentioned a meeting about preserving a west coast Amtrak line a short while back. So now they have you involved with the national network? OUCH! That will keep you plenty busy for a while!

Yes, the meeting in Oakland was a success. I'll be busy for the next six months at least. I'll be filming a video and writing a lot of literature to be distributed to key people in the small cities where Amtrak's long distance trains stop.

I had hoped to do some traveling as part of the effort, but the players decided to so this on the cheap. I'll be working off my cell phone.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HAROLD ARLEN

COTTON CLUB PARADE OF 1934: “AS LONG AS I LIVE”

From the fabulous Forties comes this sultry version.

Lena Horne: “As Long as I Live” (1941)

When you have a career as long as Lena’s, you can reconsider an earlier interpretation. This is from late in her career, but she hadn’t lost a thing.

Great to hear the Oakland meeting was a success. I believe you were getting ready to go out there for the meeting when you mentioned it before, or maybe had just gotten back from it.

Bummer they aren’t going to have you on the road at least a little throughout the process. Takes some of the fun out of it.

I was looking forward to following America's "blue highways" that parallel the Union Pacific and BNSF lines across the West and hitting those small towns. But they want to do it on the cheap.

Maybe some other time.

Yep, you were missed and we’ve been happy to have you back.
Now you’re back in full force, at least at the Canteen. It’s a bit fun watching you two vie for the gold. LOL
I hope you’re able to do a lot more at work now because you aren’t a sit-around guy.

Howdy, PRO.

Did you leave your car parked in the rain to hose it off a little? That’s what I’m gonna do Sunday when we have heavy rain come through. Not gonna bother giving it a thorough bath until the tree pollen settles down. It’s horrible right now.

Keepin’ my eyes peeled.
