Job creation posted a solid rebound in March, with nonfarm payrolls expanding by 196,000 and the unemployment rate holding steady at 3.8 percent, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report Friday.
That was better than the 175,000 Dow Jones estimate and comes after a dismal February that had economists wondering whether the decade-old economic expansion was nearing an end. The unemployment rate met expectations.
Wage gains fell off the recent strong pace, increasing just 0.14 percent for the month and 3.2 percent year over year, below expectations of the 3.4 percent pace from last month. The average work week increased by 0.1 hour to 34.5 hours.
A broader gauge of unemployment that also counts discouraged workers and those holding part-time jobs for economic reasons also was unchanged at 7.3 percent. The measure, known as the real unemployment rate is down from 7.9 percent a year ago.
Job gains were fairly broad based.
Health care led with 49,000 new workers, professional and technical services added 34,000 and food and drinking establishments contributed 27,000. Construction rose by 16,000 but manufacturing saw 6,000 jobs lost.

Thankfully the Obama economy fix finally worked.
Tax cuts work. Regulation reductions work. Strategic tariffs work.
These jobs stats are a bit meaningless now. If you want a job the jobs are there.
With positive numbers like this, even democrats can find work.
I had a phone interview yesterday.
The catbert I talked to was probably discouraged when I talked money and vacation time.
They might come across on the dough but that’s all.
I drove past the US Steel Clariton Works plant in W PA last week and there were signs posted that US Steel is now hiring.
These jobs are in the $65-75K per year range.
Any competent person that wants to work, can find a job.
Not if they ain't lookin'!.......................
Yep, you’re Wally_Bert alright!....................
Expectations! Sh*t in one hand and expect in the other and see which one fills up first! Expectations?
“Health care led with 49,000 new workers...” This is NOT good, unless you want to spend your entire income on medical care. We’re getting pretty close already.
True, though they need to be dragged kicking and screaming.
Not particularly surprising, with an aging population.
“Unexpected”
Hahahahahahaaa. whew, sniff.
Trump’s economy is a result of current and promised reversing and dismantling of Obama’s key initiatives. And most of all ridding our government, media, and some private/public corporations of corrupt officers. and he’s just getting started.
“With positive numbers like this, even democrats can find work.”
That’s what pisses them off.

What they are really saying here is that the anomalous February numbers had leftist economists fervently hoping that the decade-old economic expansion was nearing an end.
Yes, it puts pressure on them to get out of their pajamas and find a job. These great employment numbers take away their excuses for laying around in mommy’s basement.
the decade-old economic expansion was nearing an end.
Decade old? What is this guy smoking? Under Obama we were lucky to get 2% growth which is basically static. Unemployment was 3 times what it is now and we were being told to accept that this pathetic economic performance was the new normal.
In just 2 years in spite of the most ferocious opposition any President has seen since the Civil War the economy has turned around and is going gang busters.
I hate the media. I mean hate.
