Six states and the District of Columbia sued the Department of Agriculture on Wednesday, saying it weakened nutritional standards in school breakfasts and lunches when it relaxed the requirements affecting salt and refined grains last year.
The lawsuit in Manhattan federal court asked a judge to overturn the changes, saying they were carried out in an arbitrary and capricious manner.

On a more serious note, why is the Federal Government involved (answer - money). Let the school district pay for the meals and set their own policies. Problem solved.

We’ve always packed our kids lunches. Not necessarily cheaper, but we have more control of the food and it’s better.

i always packed my husband’s lunch (kids too!!) I always made sure they got real food to eat.
I guess them implementing their own nutritional standards above the fed requirements requires to much thought and effort.

On another note, one of small things about Michelle’s school lunches I have come to hate are the replacements for saltines, like you’d put in soup and chili. They are tasteless, ugly, and they don’t even crumble correctly.
end public school lunches (which are often pretty crummy and are largely thrown out anyway).. parents can, should feed their own lovely little kids!!!! it is NOT the government’s business!
You do not like the national standards? They are your schools; just pass your own local standards. It’s called federalism.
These are NOT guidelines, these are dictatorial lines as in 'you have no choice'...the food is already prepared....check the garbage cans after meals.
