The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on Monday that a Missouri man can be executed by lethal injection after he argued that a medical condition would cause him "severe pain" during the procedure. Russell Bucklew, who was convicted of murder, kidnapping and rape, appealed his planned execution, claiming it would violate his Eighth Amendment rights protecting him against "cruel and unusual punishment."
Justice Neil Gorsuch, however, wrote in the courts opinion that justices can discern no lawful basis for blocking Bucklews execution.
Bucklew had been convicted in the 1996 kidnapping and rape of his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Ray, and the murder of Michael Sanders, a neighbor who Ray was staying with at the time. Bucklew's execution was originally scheduled for May 2014.

Well at least it’s not chronic pain.
Then just hang the bastard....
M*a*s*h told us “suicide is painless”
Death row inmates should only be afforded rights that they did now deprive their victims of.
Death row should have a time limit. One appeal, and “see ya”!
i dont know why they dont just asphyxiate with pure nitrogen gas: completely painless ...
Yep. Cheap. Painless. And they could reuse the old gas chambers.
Its a win win.

People are worried whether this guy will feel pain????
Case Facts: Russell Bucklew apparently did not want to live apart from Stephanie Ray. The two had lived together in Cape Girardeau County until Ray decided to break up with Bucklew on Valentines Day, 1996. Bucklew left their mobile home and went to live with his parents.
On March 6, Bucklew returned to the trailer he had shared with Ray, found Michael Sanders, the victim in this case, there, concluded that Sanders and Ray were romantically involved, put a knife to Sanderss throat and threatened to kill Sanders if Sanders ever came back to Rays trailer. Later that same evening, Bucklew returned to the trailer, found Ray alone, threatened her with a knife, cut her jaw, and punched her in the face before leaving. Ray reported all of this to the police.
Bucklew called Ray at work the following day, March 7. He threatened her again and promised to kill her, Sanders, and her children if he saw her with Sanders again. Ray moved in with Sanders, fearing to return to her own home.
Sometime during the night of March 20-21, Bucklew stole his nephews car, two of his brothers pistols, two sets of his brothers handcuffs, and a roll of duct tape. He left a note asking his family not to report his theft to the police. By the afternoon of March 21, Bucklew began surreptitiously following Ray as she left work and ran errands, ultimately discovering where she lived by following her to Sanders trailer. Bucklew waited for some period of time before he knocked on Sanders trailer door. One of Sanders children opened the door. Sanders saw Bucklew through the window , escorted the children to a back bedroom and grabbed a shotgun. Bucklew entered the trailer with a pistol in each hand. Sanders came into the hallway carrying a shotgun. Bucklew yelled get down and without further warning began shooting at Sanders. Sanders fell, struck by two bullets, one of which entered his chest and tore through his lung. Sanders dropped the shotgun. It went off and blew a hole in the trailer wall.
Bucklew aimed the gun at Sanderss head but when he saw Sanders six-year-old son. Bucklew fired at the boy instead. The shot missed.
Ray stepped between Bucklew and Sanders, who was holding his chest as he slumped against the wall. Bucklew invited Ray to drop to her knees. When she delayed, he struck her face with the pistol. He produced handcuffs, handcuffed her hands behind her back and dragged her to the car. The two drove away.
During the journey that followed, Bucklew demanded sex. When all of the acts he demanded were not performed, Bucklew raped Ray in the back seat of the car. Resuming the journey, Bucklew drove north on Interstate 55.
By this time law enforcement authorities had broadcast a description of the Bucklew car. Trooper James Hedrich saw the car, called for assistance, and began following Bucklew. They ultimately apprehended Bucklew after a gunfight in which both a trooper and Bucklew were wounded by gunshot.
Michael Sanders bled to death from his wounds.
The usual suspects dissented with Breyer and Sotomayor writing separate opinions. Basically with Breyer saying that since the convicted inmate has a rare condition (five people in the world have this condition), the execution might cause pain or discomfort for a few minutes and therefore, he should not be executed. Sotomayor just doesn’t like capital punishment.
Nitrogen Asphyxia - simply the least painful, cleanest, most eco friendly means of execution.
Strap the condemned down, add a breathing mask, pump in 99% pure Nitrogen and 1.1 atmospheres and wait till the brain waves stop.
Really. Suck his brains out while he’s still alive. If it’s OK for babies, it should be OK for him.
Just like they did with Scalia.
I would bet that he would feel absolutely ZERO paid if a single bullet between the eyes were employed. He certainly would have time to feel any pain at all.
[[Why not just use the anesthesia]]
Exactly- count backerds from 100 “100, 99, 98, 9.....” out like a light- docs can slice and dice and the patient doesn’t feel a thing- wonder why they don’t use anesthesia- they even have anesthesia that makes you forget- all this talk about executions being painful is BS- their victims felt a hell of a lot of pain- they had no rights- why should these maggots? but someone complaining about a needle? just anesthetize them and be done with it- no more valid objections
I got used to needles when I was a kid in the early 1950's. I had chronic earaches, and our family doctor had to make house calls because we didn't have a car. I was constantly getting penicillin shots in the butt from one of those big stainless steel syringes that they had to sterilize to use again. No disposables back then, and they used real penicillin. We also had the Polio vaccines then too. Intramuscular, and your arm ached like a toothache for hours afterwards, and felt like it was made out of lead.
I hope he dies in pain, and screaming for mercy, and that his pain lasts in hell for eternity.
Just slap a half dozen fentanyl patches on his arms and legs. No injection necessary.
Their victims DID feel agony and horror. Rape and murder!!!
I can’t even let my mind go there.
But JUST TO SHUT UP dems and get these guys killed, anesthesia would be a good answer.
Heaven has a gate so that means there's a wall and the entry policy is very strict whereas Hell is wide open with no borders.
Just call it post birth abortion and Dems will be all for it.
Then just before the execution, have a writ declaring him factually innocent. Then execute him. That should satisfy the liberals. After the execution, shred the declaration as it of no further use.
If it is so easy for a vet to put a cat away painlessly, how hard can it be to do the same for a human?
