Albany’s congestion pricing plan will drive up cost of food

Albany’s congestion pricing plan will hit the wallets of all New Yorkers — not just drivers — because it impacts 5 million delivery trucks serving Manhattan retailers each year.

“It’s really basic: if people want to eat in New York City, it’s going to cost them more,” said Zach Pickens, a farmer in upstate Montgomery. “That’s just the bottom line.”

Every truck delivering food and goods into Manhattan south of 61st Street will be slapped with the new fee, expected to be about $25 for commercial vehicles of all sizes, once state legislators hash out a budget deal that they promise will send cash flowing into the MTA.

The charge will come on top of bridge and tunnel tolls that truckers already pay. Altogether, that will mean fees of $133 per trip for 18-wheelers, according to an analysis by Reclaim New York, a watchdog group.

“You need fresh food delivered every day,” said Jadan Horyn, the group’s spokesman. “Our politicians have bought into this model knowing full well the impact it will have on Manhattan eateries and on everyday people trying to put food on their tables.”

Consumers will bear the ultimate cost, business owners warn.

The liberals, socialists, etc. never realize, and never admit, that taxes on business activity, drive up the cost of the product sold to the consumer.

Let the trucks stop for two days.

The politicians want to make a difference? That ought to do it.

“Consumers will bear the ultimate cost, business owners warn.”

That’s the plan.

Combines in Manhattan are going to have to pay congestion taxes to be able to harvest the wheat fields to make bread for the peeps?

I work in Manhattan but pack my lunch about 90% of the time. It’s a shame because NYC has some of the best foods in the world to offer - not to mention all the great food trucks. But it’s prohibitively expensive to do every day.

Doesn't the technology exists for sky farms? Instead of taxing everything to death, why don't liberals use the money instead to grow food indoors hydroponically? I mean we're already one-fifth into the 21st century already.

Yeah, I know my questions are rhetoric. Cuomo is doing this to kill off the working and middle-class so he can create a huge underclass of people who'll beg the elites like him for their basic needs. I bet by 2030 cars and trucks will be banned in NYC.

If a dimbulbcrat makes a law it will 1) cost more, 2) screw someone, or 3) both.

The people in NYC deserve everything that is coming to them. They are responsible for the leaders they have.

It’d be quite the lesson if the truckers boycotted delivering to Albany, and everybody would have to go out of town for their fast food and groceries. Think of all those lost sales taxes.

This law is designed to limit access to lower Manhattan to wealthy people - make no mistake about it. They realize but won’t admit it.

But the Problem is, they vote for higher taxes and then leave because of higher taxes! Then they go to states with lower taxes and vote to increase taxes! It’s a virus that keeps spreading. Instead of protesting higher taxes ANYWHERE, they double down on their insanity.

Case in point: AOC’s supportive mother
