Legislation aimed to help struggling families and cut child poverty by nearly 40 percent was announced by U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez at a Union City press conference Monday.
The American Family Act is the kind of bold action we need to give more low-income children, and especially children of color, a fighting chance of making it into the middle class, the senator said in the playground of Union City Day Care Center on 47th Street.
We pay both a heavy moral and economic price for leaving too many children behind, Menendez said while standing in front of dozens of young children who he called the countrys most valuable asset. He said we cannot sit idly by while the American dream becomes a myth. You can work toward a dream. You cant work toward a myth. The proposed legislation would create a new Child Tax Credit of $300 per month per child under 6 years old, up from the current $2,000 per year. It would also expand the Child Tax Credit for children under 17 to $250 per month, also up from $2,000 per year. The multifaceted bill would be pinned to inflation, so it would maintain the same value going forward.

And the law should allow the father to stay in the home.
The Earned Income Tax Credit on Steroids?
Oh wait, the EITC is already on Steroids.
Handouts don’t work. Period.
It has been established - SCIENTIFICALLY — that to avoid poverty, people need only do 2 things:
1) Get (and stay) married before having kids
2) Get a full time job.
People who do this have a poverty rate of something like 8%. Literally 92% of families who do this are in the middle class.
THIS should be the basis of public policy, NOT gibsmedat.
“MORE FREE SH**!”
Beware a Dimocrat bearing free government handouts to those who haven’t earned anything.
Does the plan include sending them to the Dominican Republican so he can fly down there and have “Fun” with them for money....
Taking money from those who work and giving it to those who don’t will not lift anyone out of poverty.
How many of those kids are living in a home with both parents who are married to each other? Thats where the problem is. The government is not there to finance anyoneschildren. That is the duty of their parents.
Cut child poverty by 40%?? 40 is a failing grade in any academic environment, and this child hooker hack should know it. Make it 100%, bob or just go away.
Why don’t we get rid of the corrupted teachers unions and actually give the ghettos a little education.
The best way to “cut child poverty” is to build a wall and stop importing it from Mexico and points south.
Don’t need to know what this child rapist has to say.
“Mo’ money. Mo’ money. Mo’ money....”
Until there is no mo’ money.
It is unbelievable to me that people dont understand this. Subsidize tou get more (poverty) tax you get less(wealth)

I wonder how much of that will go to support illegal aliens?
Hey I want reparations for back when I was busting my ass to feed my family and no one bailed my ass out. I made the decision to have kids and I was the one responsible for feeding, clothing and housing them..........not the taxpayer!
p>
What the hell is going on, all these GD democrats want taxpayers to be on the hook for illegals and those that have kids and don’t want to be responsible for them financially........also mainly illegals.
All these politicians, MSM loons, and Hollyweird Libs, who profess in front of cameras to feel so badly for all the poor here and all over the world, should open their own bank accounts and donate 75% of everything they have to be distributed to the poor they helped to make poor.
You are correct. I was thinking only about U.S. citizens. Sorry.
