Communism would have happened anyway - the czars and Russian nobility were mostly idiots that grossly mistreated their people and long before 1914 they were having severe internal problems. See what happened to the Russian Second Pacific Squadron on their way to the Battle of Tsushima.

Some historians have posited that all WW1 did in this respect was bring the inevitable revolution forward a bit, and not by much.

Interesting take. Keep in mind the Germans transported Lenin back to Russia to get Russia out of the war, so they did indeed at least fast tracked Bolshevism. One could argue those pushing democratic socialism may have won out over the Bolshevists.

communism was not inevitable in Russia - it was aided by the German Empire who transported Lenin to Russia from switzerland

communism in post-imperial germany - now that was more likely
