New Zealand Politician Tells NRA to 'Bugger Off,' Stay Out of Country's Affairs
Newsweek ^ | 22nd March 2019 | Ewan Palmer

The National Rifle Association has been told to "bugger off" from meddling in New Zealand's affairs as the country undertakes gun law reform in the wake of the attacks on two mosques, which left 50 people dead.

Former Police Minister Judith Collins, of the center right National Party, described how she had tried to introduce stricter gun laws in New Zealand but was met with opposition from the country’s gun industry and lobbyist groups.

Collins said she and other members of parliament received large amounts of material that appeared to have been sourced from the NRA.

"They talked about how we were trying to take away their Second Amendment rights to own guns. We don't have a right to bear arms. To own a gun in New Zealand is absolutely a privilege and not a right. When I met with these lobbyists they spoke the language of the NRA," she told the The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

She added that she still received similar material but now just deletes it. “Firstly, I am no longer the police minister, so I don’t have to read them. But also I know what my position is, and it is not going to change. We have lost 50 people,” Collins said.

The NRA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that all military style semi-automatic guns and assault rifles would be banned in the country after the terror attacks in Christchurch. The move was praised by many, including U.S. Democrats who have called for gun law reforms in their own country.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York wrote while tweeting a link to Ardern’s announcement: “Sandy Hook happened 6 years ago and we can’t even get the Senate to hold a vote on

“To own a gun in New Zealand is absolutely a privilege and not a right”

“Rights” are not the products of government whim. Would Collins also say “to be free from slavery in New Zealand is absolutely a privilege and not a right”? I think not.

The right to self-defense is inherent to any creature of free will. That right can be thwarted, but it cannot be taken away.

I remember when NL would not allow any US Naval vessel access to NL waters or ports. Screw NL.

NL did not want any nuclear weapons in it’s territory however the US Navy does not say which of it ships carry nukes so NL banned all US navy vessels. I am not sure if they still do.

I am sure that the Chicom are happy NLeners are being disarmed.

To own a gun in New Zealand is absolutely a privilege and not a right.

It is an inherent human right, not a f***ing privilege you ignorant bitch!

They don’t need the ChiComs.

Their own government is doing it to them.

Hoping they have massive non-compliance.

pretty clear the world’s “elite” will be using NZ as their bug-out go-to place when the rest of the world gets to hot for them

They don’t want the natives going loco on them when their life’s deeds blow out into the public domain

It’s New Zealand, so I don’t know if I care about THEIR rights, if they don’t fight for them.

On the other hand, I’d be pretty annoyed if I was one of MILLIONS of gun owners forced to sell my expensive weapons back to the government at a loss, just because once ever 30 years someone kills a bunch of people with a gun that has some vague resemblance to the one I have.

Well, the guy who did the shooting was an Australian, so essentially her response to a foreign invader shooting up her citizens is to force her citizens to disarm.

I wonder if she is one of those few politicians down there that at one time or another wanted to revive the old registry for standard hunting rifles and shotguns that was abandoned in 1983 at the request of many police officials as it was determined to be a huge waste of police man hours to correct the information in it and clear related backlogs.

Bet she was told a thing or two by such people who remembered it quite well and did not want any part of bringing it back and so now she gets to lecture like this in the wake of what that beserk Aussie did last week.

Knowing why this foreigner SAYS he used guns to shoot up the place, I am reminded of a fictional character quote from an iconic movie.

“The circuits that cannot be cut are cut automatically in response to a terrorist incident. You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F.B.I.”

It’s like the foreigner invades your country and shoots your citizens, but gets stopped by a guy with a gun, so your response is to make your citizens turn in their weapons, to make it easier next time.

Ironically, they have an NRA too.

NRA of New Zealand

Near as I can tell they aren't saying anything about this. We have more members than their total population.
