Trump should stop attacking and lying about McCain
Washington Examiner ^ | March 20, 2019 10:00 AM | Quin Hillyer

One can spend several days trying not to overreact to President Trump’s latest, unprovoked tweetstorm against the late Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., yet still conclude that there is something sick and twisted about Trump’s obsession with the singular American hero Trump disparages.

Tom Rogan already in these pages has eloquently explained why, fake heel spurs or no fake heel spurs, Trump could never be fit to wear McCain’s discarded shoes. And lawyer George Conway, husband of top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway, has presented a persuasive case that Trump’s fulminations about McCain and other bizarre eruptions are signs of a personality disorder.

What remains, though, is a reminder that on facts as well as fulminations, Trump’s flip-out against McCain is full of falsehoods.

First, as many others have noted, Trump repeatedly accused McCain of trying to spread the so-called “Steele dossier” as a way to block Trump’s election, but the undisputed evidence shows McCain didn’t even become aware of the dossier until after Election Day. (Plus, McCain did exactly what a senator should do when provided such material: He turned it over to the FBI, without prejudice. But that’s beside the point about Trump’s dishonesty.)

What has not been as adequately refuted is Trump’s allegation that McCain voted against a bill to “repeal and replace” Obamacare, and that McCain’s vote was a big surprise. Neither element of that story is true.

First, by the time a healthcare bill finally reached a vote in the Senate, it was in no way, shape or form a “repeal and replace” bill. In reality, it was a shell of a bill known as “skinny repeal,” which did next to nothing other than keep...

“My point is simple. Sometimes politics is perception. I bet the majority of the country outside of our little utopia here thinks McCain was great”

You seem to be making my point. So ignorance is bliss?

Amen!

John McCain was among the enemy.

To Hell with John McCain and anyone who supports or defends him.

Strap your nut sack on, things are going to get very serious, very soon.

Maybe I’m too jaded.

But I have a feeling the swamp is in holding mode until Trump is gone. Be it in 2 years or 6. Then everything will start churning all over again...

Round and round we go.

The only thing that lasts is the SCOTUS. That’s where his legacy can be built to stabilize this country for decades to come. Everything else is crap.

I don’t know about the lying, but he should shut his fat mouth about McCain. The guy is dead. It’s like the first lesson you learn - don’t speak ill about the dead or criticize someone who can’t defend themselves. All it does is bring his whiney daughter back into the media fold. It makes him look like a baby. This is one of my biggest complaints about him. He has no tact. He never rises above. The Presidency should sometimes BE above the fray. He has never mastered this. Whether intentional or not, I can’t stand it.

"I er ah John! How does it feel to have Freepers defending you, after, you know, what you did to the country? [Kennedy laughs]"

"Shut up, Ted! And f**k Free Republic! F**k Trump!!!"

I can’t believe this appeared in the normally Conservative Washington Examiner. I probably would counsel the President to “Let a Dead Dog Lie”, but everything he said about Mc Cain is true.

For the masses, probably. There was an old saying regarding parenting and when to draw the line with your kids.

“Choose your Battles”

I think a little bit of that factors in here. Or at least it should.

Spot on. No one here seems to see that. Or be able to admit it. Trump isn’t perfect. (Heresy, I know) He’s miscalculating here.

Agree. He plays the media’s change the subject ruse better than they do and knows they really need him to survive. Otherwise they would have to do real reporting on thing like failed gun laws in Chicago, the exorbitant cost of illegal immigration and the dumbing down of society caused by social media , Hollywood and themselves

And, like the line Colonel Nathan Jessup uttered in the movie “A Few Good Men”, THEY CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

It is in holding mode, and when he is gone they are going to amp it up as high as it will go.

We denied them. We must be taught.

SCOTUS isn’t going to save us. SCOTUS is part of the problem.

We are either going to be free, or we are not.

And we cannot be free as long as even a single leftist is in this country, because that leftist will then begin infecting others with his or her madness.

We know what the wage freedom is, and that wage is payable more than once.

Terry, how do you know all this? Is there a book documenting this? I have never had a strong interest in his military career but now I’m starting to want to educate myself. How you can hate somebody beyond the grave is beyond me but I’m starting to hate this very dead guy more than when he was alive!

There are too many coordinated stories on McCain to be simple happenstance. Someone is pushing this for a reason. The reason is likely McCain’s involvement in the dossier is bigger than we know and that info is going to drop.

Mccain revealed himself to me as a petty, bitter, small man at the end. He was a major pusher of the political hit smear paid for by hitlery because of his vindictiveness. Those actions have caused 2+ years of divisiveness due to a fake witch-hunt. But he should be laid to rest with his vitriol.....

McCain deserves a lot of criticism for the damage he’s done the nation. I hope that very soon his collusion with terrorist entities in the Syrian conflict is exposed. But, for heaven’s sake, President Trump shouldn’t attack the person. He should attack the horrible things he’s done to bring the nation down.
