Citing climate change, U.S. judge blocks oil and gas drilling in large swath of Wyoming

BILLINGS, Mont. — A judge blocked oil and gas drilling across almost 500 square miles in Wyoming and said the U.S. government must consider climate change impacts more broadly as it leases huge swaths of public land for energy exploration.

The order marks the latest in a string of court rulings over the past decade - including one last month in Montana - that have faulted the U.S. for inadequate consideration of greenhouse gas emissions when approving oil, gas and coal projects on federal land.

U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras in Washington appeared to go a step further than other judges in his order issued late Tuesday.

Previous rulings focused on individual lease sales or permits. But Contreras said that when the U.S. Bureau of Land Management auctions public lands for oil and gas leasing, officials must consider emissions from past, present and foreseeable future oil and gas leases nationwide.

This of course, must be struck down immediately. Political Question doctrine.

As somebody once said, elections have consequences.

Contreras and his FISA buddies approved FISA warrants based on political oppo research but wants the government to do a painstaking investigation in this case.

My very question. This is not the judge’s place. I think as a nation we need more impeachment of judges. Maybe imprisonment for abuse of office should be a given.

U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras in Washington appeared to go a step further than other judges...
He's trying to rule by decree, and is unfit for the bench. Looks like another Obama success story.

It’s time U.S. presidents started telling all activist movements and the judges who side with them that “you don’t get to make policies” from the bench. “You, the activists as well as you judges need to go run for office and try to get elected so you can try to legislate new policies, you don’t get to dictate them from the bench.”

"This is the Holy Grail ruling we've been after, especially with oil and gas," Nichols said. "It calls into question the legality of oil and gas leasing that's happening everywhere."

Just more ecoterrorism. They want the earth rewilded.

Much of the land in NM's portion of the Permian Basin is under Federal BLM control and most of the land in the San Juan Basin is also under BLM. Now that the NM Legislature has adjourned until next year without banning fracking, you can bet that the enviro-nutters in Santa Fe are rushing to District Court to file a similar case to stop drilling in New Mexico.

Illegal aliens cause global warming. Bet we can whip up a computer model to prove it. AND, if they keep moving Northward, they'll cause the Earth to tip on its axis, causing the polar icecaps to melt and drown the baby Polar Bears.

This is the same judge that Strzok and Paige tried to influence for FISA rulings? I hope he gets what he has coming. This black robed arsehole belongs in jail.

I don’t know if this is the same judge but he is a FISA judge.
