WASHINGTON President Donald Trump stepped up his pressure on General Motors to reopen an Ohio manufacturing plant that recently closed and put 1,700 people out of work.
Trump's arm-twisting came in a series of separate tweets on Saturday and Sunday . He capped his weekend rant against the GM with a tweetdisclosing that he had vented his frustrations during a conversation with the company's CEO, Mary Barra.
"I am not happy that it is closed when everything else in our Country is BOOMING," Trump wrote. "I asked her to sell it or do something quickly. She blamed the UAW Union I don't care, I just want it open!"
The union is the United Automobile Workers, which represents the employees who lost their jobs in the Lordstown closure. Trump had previously told a UAW leader, David Green, to "get his act together and produce" for the Lordstown workers.
Green didn't respond to a request for comment Sunday, nor did GM.

Mary Barra was on Hillary’s short list of VP candidates.
It’s clear that Govt. Motors is doing this to spite Trump. The swamp demands it.
Given the ties between GM and the Federal Govt. I’m not sure how much or how little Trump can exert influence.
I hope that President Trump punishes GM to the maximum.
Her dad worked in car plants for 40 years and she started when she was 18 and went thru GMI. You have a hard time finding someone who has stronger ties to the car business but after she became Smart with an MBA and all, evidently she’s now just a beancounter on steroids. Disappointing.
She could actually BE somebody. Invest in America, open that plant. Make America Great Again. Why is this so hard?
Business schools are globalist indoctrination center. The “teach” lies and propaganda. One of the biggest lies is that Smoot - Hawley caused the GD!! I would laugh if it wasn’t so damaging.
They make the Chevy Cruze at that plant. Which no one is buying. Why would you keep a plant open to make a product no one is buying?
Or let me guess... is everyone who is criticizing this move going out and buying new Chevy Cruzes to help turn the tide? Didn’t think so.
Maybe it should also be revealed that GM reported way off the charts (for the current automobile outlook) that sent GM shares soaring a month or so ago.
I’m sure she has her fingerprints on it so she could dump the stock at higher prices before the real evidence comes in where GM is heading.
An honest SEC/FINRA would have investigated that already.
Fine, dump chevy cruz, and put a new line in the plant. GM can ship some lines back from Mexico.
They can’t dump the Cruz since the gummit requires they make them for MPG requirements. They are also closing electric car lines which were also required for the loan.
People want SUVs but the DNC won’t allow them.
All the electricity this plant uses is made by windmills.
O’Bastard is out of office now, they can get a new deal from Trump.
In her defense, the UAW local at Lordstown has a reputation.
Congress passed tougher laws to combat Climate Change which closed this plant. She needs to go since she agrees to this nonsense.

Nice limited thinking for such a snarky attitude.
Why would we, or anyone else buy a lousy product as you say no one is buying.
It’s called retooling. Make a product someone will buy. that’s called capitalism.
Like what? A magic car conjured out of thin air?
Hi bd. I hope you are well.
Im with you on this one. GM (despite the government assistance they accepted) should not be forced to build products that have insufficient buyers. That is the free market. Politicians of all stripes should manage their own affairs and leave business decisions to businesses and their leaders (as empowered by its shareholders). PDJT had many issues with union leaders and workers in building some of his buildings. In fact, he was fined in excess of a million dollars for flaunting labor laws to do so. I am not a GM apologist or shareholder, but I line up with free market capitalism on this one. The Cruze was a bust. Even Ford is dramatically scaling back sedans. GM has invested over $200 Million in the United States of America since the election of 2016. The President should cease micro managing any company/person he makes as a villain. He should talk about policy and work for solutions instead of mere criticism.

That plant is decades and decades older than the chevy cruze. Cruze is just one of the models that has been made there.
The could bring in a newer model if they wanted to
They could make a different model at the factory. I would like FedGov buy the entire plant from GM and then lease for $1.00/yr to another manufacturer, maybe Toyota.
