Full title of article: Family to 'encourage deportation' for undocumented immigrant sentenced to 14 months for killing Raleigh man in hit-and-run

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The family of a Raleigh man killed in a crash in September said he wouldn't be dead if the man who hit him had not illegally entered the country.

The man who hit Jamar Beach, 26, pleaded guilty Friday to hit-and-run causing death--it was the only criminal charge prosecutors said they could defend in court.

The judge in the case handed down the maximum sentence of 20-33 months in prison, but Beach's family said it's just not enough.

"He had no business here in the first place and he should not have been operating a vehicle," Beach's mother Cameo Robinson said. "He didn't have a license. So therefore he's being treated better than the citizen who's been killed."

Investigators said they could not gather enough information to charge Neri Damian Cruz-Carmano--who entered the country illegally from Mexico--with driving while impaired or causing the accident, even though they believe he did both.

Outrageous.....

Just another case of an illegal alien killing someone in this country with his auto - and he didn’t have a license - and probably was DUI.

Why is this even a question? Conviction of a felony is grounds for deportation of many legal immigrants, and conviction of an “aggravated” felony is grounds for deportation of even permanent residents. This guy is an illegal immigrant and would be deportable even if he had committed no other crime at all.

I think the deportation issue is an important afterthought. The family of the man who was killed wanted more jailtime for the illegal alien first. That was the first title of this article and then when I checked back, it changed to the title being about the deportation.

I’m having a hard time parsing the headline for that story.

Agree the headline is not a good one.

When I first read the story, the headline was about the fact that the “undocumented immigrant” had killed a guy and did a hit and run and was not getting enough jail time.

Then, instantly, the title changed to the current one which was truncated due to the allowed length of titles here on FR. I put the full title in my initial comments.

Every day the crimillegal was in the US, he was committing another crime simply by being here. Fourteen months is appalling.

I thought re-entry into the US by an illegal alien who has already been removed was a felony and cause for immediate re-deportation upon completion of prison sentence..

Obviously the victim's family are a bunch of white African-Americans (/sarc), so there won't be any real coverage by the Partisan Media Shills. Thanks Freedom'sWorthIt.

That should be what happens - immediate deportation after the prison sentence, yes. We won’t read about whether or not this illegal gets deported I am sure. But the family of the man who was killed says they are going to follow up and be sure he gets deported.

He should be deported after release from jail and after his legs are removed.

This should slow him down a bit before he tries to illegally enter the US the next time.

If it had been Jamar Beach, that killed someone, you could count on a long prison sentence.

My condolences to his family and especially his mother that lost her son.
