President Trump issued the first veto of his presidency Friday afternoon against a resolution passed by the House and Senate to end the national emergency declaration on border security. Twelve Senate Republicans sided with Democrats on the issue.
“Today I am vetoing this resolution. Congress has the freedom to pass this resolution and I have the duty to veto it," Trump said from the Oval Office.
“People hate the word invasion, but that’s what it is," Trump continued, calling the resolution "dangerous" and "reckless."

The President was flanked by DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Attorney General William Barr and number of other law enforcement officials. Angel Moms, mothers of children killed by illegal aliens, were also in attendance.
"The fact that this is an emergency is undeniable,” Nielsen said.
Barr also made remarks and said President Trump's emergency declaration on the issue is "firmly grounded" in the law.
Earlier today, President Trump thanked Republicans who voted against the measure.
I’d like to thank all of the Great Republican Senators who bravely voted for Strong Border Security and the WALL. This will help stop Crime, Human Trafficking, and Drugs entering our Country. Watch, when you get back to your State, they will LOVE you more than ever before!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 15, 2019
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will hold a vote to override President Trump's veto in two weeks. The White House is confident she doesn't have the votes to do so.
Pelosi: On March 26, the House will once again act to protect our Constitution and our democracy from the President’s emergency declaration by holding a vote to override his veto.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) March 15, 2019

This story has been updated with additional information.
“The GOP Senators must feel like total heels.”
Narcissists generally don’t feel empathy, or any other emotion - except for envy, hatred and rage.
I expect to see and hear Mitt Romney all over the Sunday news shows bitching about the veto.
IMHO this is the lefts first test to see if they can raise a 2/3 senate majority for impeachment. The emergency declaration is just the vehicle.
Our President, by his shear force of will, is a genius.
He can claim that his word was so important that even though he had 12 back-stabbing, self-serving traitors against him in the senate, he still managed to get the job done. That is awesome. He is awesome.
And don’t stop telling the story of those 12.
And may God Bless those who stood with him.
Romney is upset because he soiled his last clean pair of magic underwear - and, soon, once the supply of cheap illegal labor dries up, his wife will have to do the laundry. No more illegal alien servants.
Yes, I agree.
I see that “low energy” Jeb is calling for a primary opponent to the President. He didn’t say it would be he who takes the plunge but suggested the liberal governor of MD.
I’ll never feel the same again about Mike Lee or Rand Paul. Rand must think his mean neighbor is an “emergency” but not the mess on the border.
Thank you for this veto, Mr. President! I had emailed my senator, Lamar Alexander, of my support for you, and my desire that he fully support you too. All I got from him was a robot reply email in return.
God bless you, President Trump, for your great efforts to help the families and citizens of the USA. We appreciate you more than you can know.
Its definitely an invasion. Globalists, oligarchs and dictators have been salivating for the day the invasion permanently weakens is.
Actually, if they vote on an override, you should expect even more Senators to vote for the override but they will stop at 66 votes. Thus, the override attempt will fail, but 7 additional Republican Senators over the 12 who voted originalky, will get to virtue signal in a vain attempt to get useful idiots to vote for them when they are up for reelection.
This is how politics works in DC.
JoMa
Get the point?!
There should be an “illegal clock”, similar to the debt clock that we have seen for years.
Every day, week, month that goes by how many illegals have crossed the Southern “Border”. How many have overstayed their visa’s. How many have been killed - raped - damaged in other ways.
Finally, how much taxpayer dollars are wasted on the invaders that should have been there for Americans.
Show the numbers every day.
Then let the globalists tell us with a straight face this is not a crisis situation.
“President Trump Vetos Resolution That Ends His National Emergency Declaration”
Should read: President Trump’s Veto of Resolution Keeps His National Emergency Declaration In Effect.
I tried to find the thread reporting that O’Connell got many more senators to vote against the resolution and they were named, but I could not find it.
I was really disgusted to learn that there are so many supporters of the Chamber of Congress, The Business Round Table, and the other mega donors who do NOT want the Wall.
I did not realize that we had SO MANY RINOs.
I wonder if anyone here recalls that right after the kerfuffle about Cruz dropping out of the race, there was a movement that wanted to break away from the republican party.
Many people were involved over a good period of time and at the end they held a contest to name the new party. The name that won was: The Federalist Party.
What remains is a website that features journalists and some damn good reporting. The one most well known is Molly Hemmingway.
With all of the dorks who are showing just what rotten betrayers they are.
Perhaps we can take a second look at that effort.
Those 29 senators Do Not deserve our support.
Congress should get the point!
It would be just as effective
It's time to call "our" Senators and let them know they'll never be voted into office again if they continue to undermine our President and our nation.
Was grounding of 737s a National Emergency?
I’m watching these Republican Squishems and I am not pleased.
