Was that on “Barking Pumpkin” records? :)

It pre-dated that label by a few years.

Don't Eat the Yellow Snow is another good dog-related song on the Apostrophe' album.

“Kitty Up Go”—Anne Christine (1966)—the story of a peripatetic cat who hangs out at truck stops. Unfortunately, it hasn’t come to Youtube.

When Presley came out with that song, I was dating a young lady whom I later married. I heard the song for the first time when I was on my way to pick her up. I told her about the song. Her response was, "What a horrible philosohy"

Richard Leigh is the writer of this well known song and Crystal Gayle made the song a huge hit back in the late '70's. The Late Guy Clark told the story of the song's meaning, and it is a tear jerker:

It is indeed a love song. It seems Richard Leigh had an old dog, one he had since it was a pup. As the dog was growing old, it became blind as a result of cataracts, which also turned the dogs eyes blue.

I've always viewed this song differently since I heard that story:

Don't it make my Brown Eyes Blue - Crystal Gayle

A friend of mine, a fellow musician, would hit the Holiday Inn lounge after work some days. One time, they were playing a “Name That Tune” game with a free drink for who could name a tune first after hearing progressively more notes of it.
My friend and I would generally name the tune after maybe three notes. We won every round until the bartender gave up and stopped playing the game. LOL
