WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released the following statement after voting to disapprove of the national emergency declaration regarding the border:
I stand with President Trump on the need for a border wall and stronger border security, but the Constitution clearly states that money cannot be spent unless Congress has passed a law to do so.
On March 4, 2019, Dr. Paul introduced the Border Enforcement, Security, And Funding Enhancement (BE SAFE) Act as a constitutional, fiscally responsible alternative. The BE SAFE Act would impose a $2,500 border security fee on each new green card issued to fund the construction of new border walls or physical barriers and other immigration-related improvements. The bill also directs U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) to deposit all fees paid under the BE SAFE Act into a new Border Security Enhancement Fund at the U.S. Treasury. Only the president would be authorized to use the Fund for certain immigration-related purposes.
You can read the BE SAFE Act below:

Go with that.
Selective outrage, eh, Paul?
Just curious.......did he ever take issue with any of Obamas National Emergencies?? (you know, those emergencies that actually had nothing to do with OUR COUNTRY)
Rand, you are an ass.
“The BE SAFE Act would impose a $2,500 border security fee on each new green card issued to fund the construction of new border walls or physical barriers and other immigration-related improvements.”
The illegal border crossers don’t get a green card. They are being given US citizenship just for stepping across the border. So much for the $2500/person ‘fee’.
Paul’s bill only discourages those who cross the border legally and makes the law ABIDERS PAY for the LAW BREAKERS.
Washington DC spends money every day without Congress. Try something else Mr Paul.
Traitor. Voted against the security of the United States of America and voted for illegals over citizens.
Don’t worry Chuck Schumer is in charge and he plans to bring this up for a vote every 6 months ,Doh
The Constitution ALSO clearly states that the Federal Government shall PREVENT INVASION (art IV, sec 4).
So Trump is following the Constitution by doing whatever it take to prevent invasion because Congress won’t.
Trump is on the side of protecting our land which is the constitutional intent of the federal government. PAYING for that protection is important but not as important as the protection itself from our enemies.
So Rand misses the forest for the trees - again.
The Constitution is not a suicide pact and should not be used against itself which means not protecting the border is a direct threat to the Republic and the Constitution.
he’s a libertarian, he could care less about secured borders. Hope MS-13 moves into his neighborhood.
YOU are judas Iscariot !
YOU tried to hurt the American, legal, citizens today.
YOU are a liar. YOU waited all these years until today,
before you decidedly acted against this great President.
I wish Paul would just change his party affiliation to Libertarian already. Hes the only real vote of personal conscious on this. Hes toeing his allegiance to Libertarian values as he always does. The rest are scum.
Personally, I doubt Paul would have done this if he had been the deciding vote. But that’s just me.
Rand Paul is full of caca.
Rand Paul is another traitor loser.
Need no Emergency Declaration. Need no traitor Congress.
Constitution says U.S. President BUILDS THE WALL!
If not President Trump, keep asking and voting in Wall builders. Trump Jr, Jim Jordan etc.
I always think he is full of crap.
yep
We'll find out if he votes yes to overturn the President's veto.
