A college entrance exam policy that was meant to help students with disabilities was exploited to enable cheating in an explosive school admission scandal.
At least 50 people - including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin - were charged with cheating on admission tests and bribing coaches in what's being described as the biggest school admissions scandal ever prosecuted by federal authorities.
In the scandal parents had their children 'purport to having learning disabilities' so they could get medical documentation for it and take advantage of the College Board's special accommodations for students with disabilities.
With medical proof, those students could then take their ACT or SAT college entrance exam at one of two special centers that give students with disabilities extra time to complete the test or allow them to take it alone under the supervision of a proctor.
These special centers were also at times controlled by the scam group Edge College & Career Network and this is where the cheating occurred.

Those personal essays have become bogus too, with many having hired ghost writers at this point.
If special accommodations are offered to anyone on the basis of a "disability," then those accommodations should be available to anyone who wants them.
This whole story is a joke. These universities are reaping the idiocy they've sowed with their leftist identity politics and admission standards. If a borderline illiterate thug can get into USC just because he can play football, then I see nothing wrong with anyone faking their credentials in the application process -- period.

I’m not sure about “largely”. I suppose it depends on how you define it.
I mean, it keeps your daughters away from the drudgery of motherhood and your sons from getting dirty hands at work. In that sense, if that’s what you are paying for, it’s not a fraud. And the top 10% in IQ probably gain.
It hits home here, too, especially after watching mine study so hard for this test. Two of them studied and practiced for months and months.
The way these privileged people took advantage is just disgusting.

You want to know something super scary, my brother could have been involved in this mess. He told us last night, see he works at USC(He works in the Admissions Dept) and a woman he has known for a long time(She ended up being arrested yesterday along with Singer) she knew that my brother likes working with high school kids who want to enroll in college..so she introduced him to Singer, they actually had dinner two years ago, he offered my brother a job for 100,000 but my brother said NO, since he was getting married in June and just didnt have the time..boy did he dodge a bullet
Congrats to your child, by the way! Many colleges now offer test-optional admissions.
We’re a homeschool family, so my sons each had to take the test. Now I wish I didn’t tell all of them to take it. Focusing on that test took too much time away from their other studies.

As a mom of special needs kids this is disgusting. How dare these wealthy holier than thous hurt the disabled in this way?! I’m really angry over this. My son will need this kind of help, very smart but trouble with directions and doesn’t speak. How dare these a holes screw up his chances to actually learn a trade when their millionaire spawn are only attending to party and grant their parents status!!?

Thanks for reminding me of the term test optional. Of course in our case it also meant no in state college where we could save a lot of money.
Our high school had the kids come up with the concept and write the draft of the essay during english class. The teachers loved it. It was so her. She had a tutor a teacher she worked with before regular exams 20 bucks an hour. We had him come over one hour. Helped with a few transition sentences.

A cheater will find a way. The guidance counselor and admissions folks who came to speak at our high school told them they can tell when a kid didn’t write it. They said don’t write another sports essay about the winning goal. One of my kids wrote about how his coach carried him off the field.
Carried him off the field when injured. My kids essays made me cry.

Many in-state colleges are doing test-optional admissions now, too. On the other hand, they fill their students’ heads with nonsense sometimes. If I could send mine to a private college, I would do it.
Yep! He said he would have taken the job had he not had to prepare for the wedding..phew..he would have ended up in the pokey alongside the rest of them. He said that Singer seemed like a nice guy, but when you look at the dude you just see douche bag written all over his face
