Iwrote a book, The Case for Trump, in an effort — as an outsider who has no career investment in Trump and has never met him or visited the Trump White House — to analyze how and why Donald J. Trump was elected president and why his agenda so far has been successful. One Gabriel Schoenfeld has just published a hysterical attack on that effort in the Bill Kristol–Charles Sykes new Bulwark, and it is emblematic of that venue’s promised Never Trump ad hominem assault on individual supporters of the president. A writer for The Atlantic recently interviewed Sykes, noting:
But in the coming months, he [Sykes] tells me, The Bulwark will home in on a specific class of “grifters and trolls” — those opportunistic Trump enablers who still get invited on Meet the Press and write for prestigious newspapers. To Sykes, these are the true sellouts, and he wants to ensure that their public flirtations with Trumpism leave a stench on them.
Though wishing to leave “a stench on them,” Schoenfeld instead gives us a sad exercise in self-abasement. And his review offers an illustration of the poverty of Never Trump personal venom and incoherence.

Charlie Sykes was the squeaky wheel, nails on chalkboard, local radio personality who never did anything but talk an inflamed game. Classic definition of a putz. His “GOTCHA” interwiew with Trump on his radio show sealed his fate . . .
VDH is on the right side here, but he carries so much baggage from the Bush era, that it's hard to come down too strongly on his side.
All these writers want to be gunslingers, but they've all been wrong about things in the past and will be wrong again in the futue.

I'm gonna start off with the approval of the Keystone Pipeline, the renewal of the offshore oil drilling permits that were never approved under Obama, then the approval of drilling in ANWR, and move on to the shredding of NAFTA and renegotiating the trade agreements with Canada and Mexico. And lets not ignore the pressure we are putting on China in order to correct the disparity trade.
Then I'll mention his pulling out of the UN Climate Accord and basically telling them to go screw themselves.
Now I'll move on to after 60 years, bringing North Korea to the bargaining table and negotiating their dismantling their nuclear program. While that's a work in progress, he at least negotiated the return of American hostages and the return of the remains of the American servicemen who died there in the Korean war............
And is it necessary for me to even mention the income tax cuts for YOU and I and the corporate tax cuts that have jump started this economy?????

No, “dude.” And I’m not alone. He campaigned on the issue of stopping illegal immigration and getting the wall built. That was his agenda. It’s been two years. Two years. And still we have thousands of these animals streaming across our border.
Actually, we have thousands ATTEMPTING to stream across the border. They are being detained and turned back at an unprecedented rate. Of course POTUS has been forced to do things the hard way up till now by sending unprecedented numbers of troops and national guardsmen to the border. In about a year when the wall is completed, most of those troops will be able to return home. Relax dude.

What about the Supreme Court case that created the chaos now? Trump policy was those that enter illegally could not claim asylum. Supreme Court said anyone can claim asylum anywhere, any time. Does not matter if they come here legally or illegally. Once the asylum seekers are signed up they are allowed to stay here legally. And they can only be held so many days.
Look, "dude" he can’t do it alone. He has to do it with support. He’s NOT GETTING IT FROM THE DAMNOCRATS AND THE RINOS. He also has obstructionist judges tossing injunctions left and further left in the way. The wall is being built but not, apparently, on YOUR timeline.
Trump is not a dictator like Obama was trying to be. He has to do it within the rule of law.
Trump was elected because he said he would stop the flow of wetbacks and would build the wall. Two years into his presidency and he has accomplished neither. We've actually got more wets coming in than ever.
His "agenda" was his anti illegal platform. He has not accomplished his agenda. You can easily find any number of threads with many FR posts complaining about it.
The reason why is irrelevant. The point is that his agenda has not been successful.
