George Conway, husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, warned Friday that the U.S. would be a "banana republic" if President Trump's threats against members of the Justice Department went fulfilled.
In an address at Georgetown Law School, Conway, who is an attorney, warned that Trump's statements suggesting that top current and former Justice Department officials should be jailed for their role in the special counsel investigation were anti-democratic.
"The president has suggested that members of his own Justice Department should be locked up for investigating the president," Conway told an audience Friday.
"Now, if people were to get indicted or not indicted on the basis of whether or not the president likes them, we wouldn't have a republic," he added. "We'd have a banana republic."
The New York Times reported in November that Trump wanted to order the DOJ to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey as well as his 2016 rival Hillary Clinton. It was unclear what charges Trump reportedly wanted to pursue at the time.
The president has frequently attacked Comey, who he accused of leaking memos detailing their conversations to the press.
Trump also shared an image on social media last year of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and other law enforcement officials and Democratic figures behind bars. The president told The New York Post at the time that Rosenstein "never should have" authorized the appointment of a special counsel to investigate his campaign.
Conway emerged as a vocal critic of the president last year despite his wife's position at the White House, and has frequently battled Trump on Twitter and in op-eds.
Earlier this year, Conway suggested that reporters should assume the president to be speaking falsely under most circumstances, stating that nothing Trump said could be taken at "face value."
The attorney also warned earlier in the week that Trump could face impeachment if reports of his involvement in pressuring the Justice Department to block a merger of Time Warner and AT&T proved to be true.
The fct that none of these crooks has been punished for “lack of candor” and leaking ...and Hillary was never seriously investigated- is proof we already live in a banana Republic.
George, if they have broken or are breaking the law, they belong in jail. Sedition is a crime. Attempting a coup is a crime.
Criminals SHOULD be prosecuted.
This pure hatred for Trump is unprecedented. It shows that something like the Salem Witch Hunt was far from myth and people can go absolutely insane with delusion and irrational fear. It further shows how a segment of society can become complete drones to sick ideology.
There are six ways from Sunday that mostly independent treasonous activities were engaged in by these deranged traitors.
Mr. Conway is preparing the vacuous minds of Hillary's hoards for their street riots as bad-actor players are arrested and shipped off to Gitmo.
The idea that PDJT would have flung the first poo to make us a Banana Republic is totally laughable. Mr. Conway protests too much on behalf of the UN/NWO.
Source?
Especially if they, like committed crimes, ya know?
She should have stuck with Fred Thompson.
Ask Carvell and Madelin.
Right. Dems are already on that road and that’s why they talk about it from others.
Taking away a legally elected president by a coup is part of the definition. They always project onto others.
If it is a banana republic, peel the banana and toss the peel in front of Conway’s hubby and let him step on it.
I mean that in a nonviolent way. Maybe he’ll pick it up and put it in a proper compost bin.
Conway thinks the investigators should be a law unto themselves, accountable to nobody but their fellow Democrats. At least Trump is an elected official, accountable to the voters.
Is George worried about something?

Yes, he is.
I’m sure the brilliant students of Georgetown Law School challenged Conway’s obfuscation of the facts?
And then they demanded that their school not hire fools like this to address their class and insult their intelligence?
Why does she STAY married to him.
For everything i hate about Carville, he ALWAYS respected his wife.
This guy disrespects his wife every time he opens his mouth.
Since the democrats are moving their focus to Obstruction of Justice even though there was no crime to be obstructed; would not all the actions democrats have taken since the creation of the final Steele Dossier be considered Obstructions of Justice for interfering with a fair election and then working in concert to deceive or misdirect the Mueller investigation?
If so, the list of co-conspirators in this potential indictment could get rather lengthy in no time.
And used government resources to spy on Trump using phony evidence.
And the list just goes on and on George about your President, Obama!
Divorce coming up?

former White House aide Cliff Sims
Sims detailed a day in May 2017, when MSNBCs Morning Joe accused Conway of being disloyal to the president. Co-host Mika Brzezinski had claimed that during the 2016 campaign, Conway would praise Trump on television, but once the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say, Blech, I need to take a shower, because she disliked her candidate so much.
Sims was called into her office to discuss a response to the allegation and had been allowed to use Conways computer to type out a statement. But the computer, according to Sims, had been linked to her iMessage account, inadvertently allowing him to see every conversation she was having.
Over the course of 20 minutes or so, she was having simultaneous conversations with no fewer than a half-dozen reporters, most of them from outlets the White House frequently trashed for publishing fake news, Sims recalled.
As I sat there trying to type, she bashed Jared Kushner, Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon and Sean Spicer, all by name, he added.

Gee. Morning Joe.
I had no idea you had such a reliable open minded unprejudiced source.
Better check quick and see what Schiff has to say.
