President Trump on Friday said the House vote on an anti-hate resolution shows the Democrats have become an “anti-Israel” and “anti-Jewish party.”
The measure, which passed on Thursday by a vote of 407-23, condemned hatred against Jews, Muslims and other groups.
ADVERTISEMENT It initially was conceived as a vote to condemn anti-Semitism after comments on Israel made by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), but it was revised amid tensions among Democrats over the language and complaints the the initial version would have singled out Omar, one of the first female Muslims elected to Congress.
In the end, 23 Republicans were the only ones to vote against the resolution. Most complained that the original version had been watered down.
Trump called the vote a “disgrace” and said others in Washington agree, “if you get an honest answer.”
The resolution condemned the charge of dual loyalty against Jewish Americans, saying it “constitutes anti-Semitism because it suggests that Jewish citizens cannot be patriotic Americans and trusted neighbors, when Jews have loyally served our Nation every day.”
That language came in response to Omar’s charge that pro-Israel groups are pushing supporters to adopt “allegiance to a foreign country,” which set off a firestorm of criticism that she used a centuries old anti-Semitic trope.
But after blowback from some progressive Democrats, the resolution was revised to also condemn bigotry against Muslims as well as “Latinos, Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders, and the LGBT” in addition to immigrants and people of color.
Some Democrats feared the original resolution would have played into Republican efforts to use Omar stoke divisions on the left.
Trump has repeatedly faced backlash for his own incendiary comments about white nationalists and Jews.

It’s an understatement: They are a “jew-hating” party.
It’s an “anti-bad thing” resolution. If Islamists mow down pedestrians in crosswalks, the democrats are against cross-walk deaths. If an Islamist walks into a place of business and murders a dozen non-Islamists, the democrats are against “workplace violence”. If Islamic, black,Jew-haters in Congress spew Jew hatred, then this resolution is against hatred and backlash against the Islamic/black Jew Hater “community”. This resolution is meaningless, and a total win for CAIR.
