Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio said Thursday that he will not run for president in 2020, a decision that comes after months of preparations for the Democratic primaries and just days after he appeared to be leaning toward a launch later this month.
Brown, who revealed his plans in a conference call with home-state reporters, said he could be more effective in the Senate, where he just won a third term.

They have an inkling that Trump will get re-elected and don’t want the career killer Presidential election loss in their bio.
Sherrod Brown & Michael Bloomberg see the handwriting on the wall. The Democrat Party is dying politically. Their only hope for a viable POTUS candidate to beat POTUS, Trump in 2020 is old worthless Joe Biden. The rest of the Democrat field is going no where fast. This game is over!!!

I read your post before I read the title and was ecstatic.
I thought Brown was not going to run for reelection to his senate seat.
Based on his original principles, he is. He hasn't been stellar (or even present) about being against war, pro-worker, for the little guy. To stay US Senator from OH, he's had to get votes that trend conservative, but don't vote just by party affiliation.
He beat Renucci to keep the US Senate in a campaign where Renucci got no support from establishment 'pubs, and went lights out after winning the nomination. It almost looked like Renucci threw the election.
This opens another thought. Rob Portman is very sly and very smart. Could he be an outlier but appealing candidate for the 'pubs in 2020?

His former wife filed spouse and family abuse charges against him and followed up with a restraining order. It is a matter of court filings. No way he could get past that in a national election

He was re-elected in 2018 unfortunately. And he won’t run for president because he is a strong Dem in the senate.
and I recall the events with his former wife. and I personally knew of one of his ‘lady’ friends..She is now deceased, I will not mention her name...She actually knocked on my door once and wanted to chat, I told her I was much too busy...
Sherrod Brown had no chance of getting out of the batter box.. and yes..he is as dumb and lazy as Pennsylvania Bob Casey...who is a church mouse and hides, until it come time for his re election, and he runs on his late dad's name..HE IS A NOTHING BURGER...
I was Politically active when I lived there..ran for Precinct person for my Ward. and I worked the voting POLLS...Once when my name was on the ballot, my son was eligible for the first time to vote., he went in to one polling booth, and one of his pal's went into the other,,,”hey dude, your mom's name is on here” Son said..”vote for her, I'll tell her to make you choc. chip cookies” every one was laughing as I put my head on the table...( and lmao)
