Sen. Rand Paul loves the Constitution so much that he is willing to put it in jeopardy by opposing President Trump's emergency measures declaration. Paul's libertarian streak has emerged yet again at a fortuitous time for Democrats hoping to import more voters and a calamitous time for conservatives desperate for a big victory on immigration.
"I can't vote to give the president the power to spend money that hasn't been appropriated by Congress. We may want more money for border security, but Congress didn't authorize it. If we take away those checks and balances, it's a dangerous thing," Paul said while addressing a Southern Kentucky Lincoln Day Dinner.
The above quote illustrates the problem with Paul's constitutionalist line of thinking. While Paul is concerned about proper procedure, his liberal enemies are advancing toward their next goal. While Paul is willing to surrender authority because of concerns over technicalities, the Democrats rush headlong into the next extra-constitutional power-grab that pushes the U.S. Republic closer and closer to dissolution. Paul's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" shtick is getting old, and his principles are not usually worth defending.
The principles of libertarians and Beltway "conservatives" always seem to conveniently align with those of big business and corporate capital. This is because of a well financed network of intellectual think-tanks, activist training, lobbying programs, and university infiltration that quietly peddles influence to enforce neoliberal globalist norms among the right. The Koch brothers, for example, are libertarians who use their vast resources to prevent popular trade and immigration reforms from being supported by Republicans in Congress.

All those apps transfer money through banks.
I bet Trump does have executive authority to change regulations on cross border transfers. Such as...anyone who wants to do a cross border transfers needs to present proof they are in the country legally, and then be given a 5 year permit to make transfers. Make the permit 25 dollars. All transfers made without bank authorization get stopped. The ones that pass get withholding tax at 20%
Rand has been looking DOWN more recently as he speaks. This is a change. I agree. Hes on the take/being threatened-again.
Because grassroots conservatives are on to the beltway uniparty open borders scam and he knows it. Great paragraph from this column:

Rand Paul needs to figure out that power precedes constitutions, and if he wants people to abide by the Constitution, then he needs to help recreate the conditions where those who actually care about that document have the power to force those who don’t to abide by it anywise.
Yammering about proper procedure while you’re being flooded with millions of foreigners who don’t give a flip about your Constitution or your procedures or your rule of law or whatever else, is NOT the way to do it.
Great point. The Libertarians are no better than the left in using the Constitution to kill the country and ultimately killing the Constitution itself.
We must never forget that one of the first things POTUS did when he got to the WH was torpedo TPP and the EU trade deal. That cost the donor class BILLIONS in cash (and all the hookers that buys, etc.) and gained their permanent opposition. Now they use every tool they have to fight his agenda.
No, unless they are willing to self-deport, or at least move to New Hampshire, it is autocratic and evil to “put” them anywhere they don’t want to go (unless it is jail and they have earned it).
I just can’t figure out Kentucky. But then again California is an utter mystery to me.
Cool shut the optics of little children called up and concertina wire is infinitely worse the little children standing behind a wall youve obviously never seen people hung up in concertina wire I have its a bloody mess trust me
Oh so that’s not gonna happen.
So guys, first thanks.
So they would have to create and pass a veto proof bill to SHOOT DOWN the emergency order?
I’m lost.
Of course the President is going to veto something shooting down HIS IDEA
I know you’re both shaking your heads :)
But I appreciate the knowledge sharing.
Yes, and I am one of the most ideology driven conservatives out there, but because of the pure ideology stance of libertarians, abandoned my commitment to libertarianism. Yes, you are right. He is missing that we are at war here.
“So they would have to create and pass a veto proof bill to SHOOT DOWN the emergency order?”
It appears that way, but this is unchartered territory. I believe this is the first time that an emergency order will be challenged by Congress. My understanding is the law is clear about what it takes for Congress to halt an emergency order...I’m not sure that it was ever even contemplated that a president might veto it.
I’m guessing Trump will either decide not to veto, or he will veto and it will be challenged in court. If the latter occurs, then I would expect a court to issue an injunction to cease enforcement of the order until the legal challenge makes its way through the courts.
I’m just guessing...
Yes, again the pure libertarian stand would say employers are kings, and should have a right to employ whomever they choose from wherever they choose. Logically that fits a libertarian standpoint. Pure ideology that ignores a real invasion on the border.
Maybe anarcho-capitalist, which I have some sympathy for. The problem taking anarcho-capitalism to an extreme, we would disband all police forces, and everyone would hire private contractors to protect themselves. There IS a place for government, which I think even 1800s classical liberals who agree with.
Hes pretty much lost every last bit of respect I ever had for him.
Bottom line: hes a kook like his father.
Very interesting. Thanks.
Was looking at some election results and Houston went 60-40 to Clinton correct? Does that put Houston pretty much in the same political territory as other major cities around America?
Do you fear losing Texas to Democrats in the future? My worry is the gap was only 600,000 votes between Hillary and Trump in the state last election.
If we could take Rand Paul and mix him with Duncan Hunter, we would have a perfect candidate.
“Maybe anarcho-capitalist...”

Thank you, Sam Gamgee, for your reply!
I did not look at it in that particular vein. It is definitely a possible reason/belief of why Sen Rand often votes the way he does.
I agree with you; there is a place for government.
It’s a shame the folks who seek only to benefit from it and not enhance a nation are drawn to that type of job.
Happy to be here, and proud to serve.
