Six reasons the DNC blacklisting of Fox News for presidential debates is a spectacular mistake

Tom Perez, chair of the Democratic National Committee, has handed a gift to President Trump with his announcement that the party would not allow Fox News Channel to provide a forum for presidential debates among its contenders for the nomination.

In a statement Wednesday, DNC Chairman Tom Perez cited a story in the New Yorker magazine this week that detailed how Fox has promoted President Trump’s agenda. The article, entitled “The Making of the Fox News White House,” suggested that the news network had become a propaganda vehicle for Trump.

Here are six reasons why this is a gigantic blunder.

One:

This is a tacit admission that the party’s presidential field is afraid of tough questioning, about, for instance, support for the Green New Deal, or for tearing down existing segments of the border wall. Rick Santorum may have been the first to respond with the obvious question: “What are they afraid of?”

Other related question easily follow, such as: “If they are afraid of Bret Baier and Martha McCallum, how can they face Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong-un?”

Two:

The voting public, other than committed Democrats, already understands that all the other TV networks are heavily biased against Republicans, as many polls have revealed for years now (the latest, from Columbia Journalism Review, confirms this).  Refusing to face the one major national network that is remotely interested in challenging untruths or asking hard questions looks like cowardice.

Three:

Perez has inadvertently de-legitimized all of the debates that will occur on non-Fox outlets. The new blacklist only confirms that the DNC institutionally recognizes that its candidates need “safe spaces”

Really? I don’t think so.

As polarized as we are now, only people who support honest open sharing of ideas will find this to be an issue.

And that is a strong minority of Americans.

Communists always black list truth that is why the State controlled Pravda in the old Soviet Union.

Four:

Perez has confirmed that Democrats have nothing to fear from the other networks, because (the obvious implication goes) they are friendly. He thus drives home the contention that they are fake news media.

Should've been the First Reason.

Democrats are not bright. They are vicious, however. The only advantage they have over Republicans is that there is no low to which they are not willing to go.

So what is to stop incumbent DJT from only having Presidential debates on Fox?

Should've been the First Reason.

Move to First Reason. Combine existing First and Second Reasons into new Second Reason (because they are the same or very closely related).

I think the best approach for Presidential election debates should be for each candidate to pick three people to ask questions.

So for example, Trump could pick Rush Limbaugh, Tom Fitton and Mark Levin, while the Dem candidate could choose, say, Anderson Cooper, Joe Scarborough and Rachel Maddow.

That way, the questions would be equally biased on both sides, and both candidates would be equally challenged.

I think the result would be the most watched and productive debates in Presidential history.

That is the solution

The Democrat success in the 2018 House election has both empowered and emboldened the Democrats. Their response has been to do stupid things that are hurting them nationwide except in those safe districts like those of Alexander Ocasio-Cortez and Shelia Jackson Lee. This is a wonderful gift.

Agreed. Therefore, I would not be saddened if Trump decided not to participate in any debates no matter where they would be held. Instead he could hold some “news conferences” that networks would be invited to cover with feeds provided by the White House with no live reporters permitted. When most are out to get you by any means possible, make it as difficult as you can for them to succeed. And hire the best and brightest to produce videos explaining it to the American people.

I think they should change the concept of network debates, go to debates where all networks can broadcast. So have 3 debates, each candidate host one with the moderator of their choice.

Then a 3rd debate hosted by TBD with a moderator chosen by the American people as the least biased.

I would love to see the President bring a psychiatrist to the debate and just leave after ten minutes, saying that the only useful course of action would be for the Democrat to undergo extensive therapy. Of course, finding a conservative psychiatrist would be a challenge.

Trump made this point in a tweet. Why should he participate in any debate that CNN, PMSNBC, CBS, NYT etc... are involved in. They clearly have a political agenda.

I would be rather nasty with the sponsors of any presidential debate and flat out tell them it is going to be neutral or you can stick it and neutral means neutral, real journalists(if any can be found among the crap claiming to be journalists)and rules that are neutral as well of they can stick it. The RNC has accepted the media’s demands for 60 years and it is time to make some of our own.

During the debate between Trump and Hillary, Chris Wallace (Fox News) asked Trump if he would pledge to accept the election results. He did not turn to Hillary and ask her the same question. Some bias in favor of Trump, eh?

Chris Plante (WMAL) had an interesting strategy for Trump this morning:

Say “Sure, we’ll have debates on the MSM but the moderator can have no ties to the Democrat party or Democrat interest groups”.

They have nobody that qualifies.

But he did ask Hillary the partial birth question. Her answer and Trump’s response may have cost her PA and MI

7. Donald Trump

Does anyone really think he won’t relish the opportunity to participate in a MSM hosted debate, then “pounce” [as they love to say] on every chance to call them liars, frauds, dishonest, fake news, horrible people and anything else he can think of? Then demand the last and most important debate be hosted by Fox...

I wouldn’t mind if he were to think outside the box, and demand they all be hosted by Newsmax...it never gets any publicity, yeah they are conservative, but at least honest...

I can’t wait...this is going to be even better than the last election...

That reminds me I was at the grocery store just yesterday and forgot popcorn...again...

It was that way the last 2 primaries as well, especially the last one. It was like “What makes you guys so awesome?” event. Basically all one could have gotten from the primary debates was who best carries themselves from a charismatic point of view. Like little socialists, they all parroted the same talking points.
