Senator Rand Paul has announced that, despite supporting improvements in border security, he will vote against President Trumps emergency declaration on the grounds that its an abuse of executive power and hes absolutely right.
Every single Republican I know decried President Obamas use of executive power to legislate, Paul wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News. We were right then.

As an MD opthamologist, Rand is better educated than 99 percent of members of Congress. Downside to so much intelligence and education can be he tends to overthink things
The NEA provides a congressional termination of a president till declaration of emergency. Congress must check and balance or a dictatorship is possible. The USSC has not declared the NEA of 1976 to be unconstitutional. Do you really want to dip that toe in the water? In the end Trump can veto the congressional joint resolution.
If you don’t see the statutory emergency here you are obviously a open borders libertarian. Just come out of the closet and admit it: You are just fine with the border wide open. But you will never admit that because like Rand your real agenda here is to undermine POTUS and his secure border agenda. The last thing you want is a secure border.
Every day more and more people wake up and realize they have been scammed by the open borders lobby for 30 years. No more. Either get on the secure the border Trump train or prepare to be under it. There no longer is a door #3 for the GOP. Sorry.
I agree; I am just saying there are logical arguments to a true purist like Paul.
Nothing wrong with understanding those allied with you who disagree. It helps you persuade them to come to your side.
And Paul is persuadable; you just need to frame the issue for him to understand.

After the eight long years of the Kenyanesian Usurpation as I watched crime after crime go unreported, investigated or prosecuted, I kind of lost a lot of respect for the chin rubbers.
You were completely futile then, Rand. Congress did nothing to stop Obama’s rule by executive order.
Not only did the GOP not stop it they enabled it. Most notably with the Corker Iran deal bill. Fully funded DACA, etc., etc. Where were these brave GOP “constitionalists” when DACA was being funded? Not a one of them demanded a shut down fight over that. Did they? I wonder why?
Rand is a pure open borders liberation. The constitution is just a smoke screen here. That is all.
Unilateral disarmament never works. So long as the law is on the books and America’s enemies use that power to harm productive Americans, real Americans should use that power when we hold the office.
I’m okay with repealing that law - after the Wall is built. I’m not okay with allowing globalists to use it in destroying our country but declining to use that same power because we are too fastidious.
In 2016, somebody mentioned all those illustrious anti-Trump writers to GOP primary voters, and 99 percent of GOP primary voters responded, who?
I cant even recall any GOP weak sisters speaking out about
Obamas National Emergencies.
lol!
Obama on the other hand did not have laws or the Constitution to back up his EOs for the most part.

The Constitution says he can’t be President.
The repub's must have done all their "decrying" in private.
If there was any "decrying", I don't recall hearing it.
rand paul should stick to mowing lawns.
I don’t use Google, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t scrubbed.
Rand Paul is a gutless spineless weasel hiding behind his “conscience” rather than doing his duty to support and defend the constitution of the US and our national interests..
I will repeat what others have said, the Constitution is not a suicide pact.
You are ascribing an opinion to me I do not hold. I see the emergency every day. I live in San Diego Co. I am merely explaining the law and the check and balances provided in the NEA 1976.
If you want to have this out, quote my language which tells you I am an open border libertarian (one of the reasons I left the LP was their open borders positions)
I suggest you re-read first, as to avoid repeating your original misinterpretation.
I agree the law itself is on shaky constitutional ground, but it exists and Trump is following it. Congress is the problem here. They pass all sorts of laws that give the administrative state way to much flexibility.
