It beats sending it to China where they charge us then dump it all in the ocean.
Really, who cares?
That is exactly right. That is why and where all the garbage that is washing up on West Coast beaches is coming from.
They do this in Colorado as well. The beauty is that they charge us extra for the privilege of separating our recyclables, only to be re-combined with our trash at the dump.
My local Public Works is even considering changing the recycling rules because of the expense.
.
meh- our ‘recycle’ bin is only another $5 per month, cheaper than the regular bin- so we get two bins we fill up each month cheaper=- I don’t care where they dump it- We should just get 2 ‘recycle’ bins instead of one regular bin lol- save even more-
Since it is recyclables, it’s likely it was washed. At least it will be clean trash.
Recycle companies only want the metal and the cardboard
The plastic and glass usually goes to the landfill
My wife makes sure of that.

We’re such a rich country that we wash our trash. I wonder how much water is wasted in recycling...
That’s what happens here........................
Same is true in MD...
Recycling is a feel-good practice but much of what we recycle has been going into landfills for years. Mixed paper for starters is pure garbage.
I was at Weis Mkt this morning, getting what I need after tomorrow’s ERCP Endoscopy for a day or two at home, and ran into a friend who is an exec for P*** W**** Co, and he said they haven’t recycled for 5-6yrs.
They burn it all at the York Incinerator. Just no money anymore in domestic recycling, or shipping it to China. Cheaper to just burn it. The sophisticated scrubbers take care of the smoke particulates, so no big deal.
How long has recycling not been economical?
Were the beneficial economics of recycling based on the bad trade deals of pre-PDJT times?
Insights welcome.
For years, we’ve occasionally had the city garbage trucks come by (late) and toss the recycling cans’ contents in with the regular trash.
We’ve known.
It’s all like the “life-saving” red-light runner cameras.
Once people actually start slowing down, the system loses $$ and is scrapped.
Then the red light runners seem to come back with a vengeance.
