Our planet is not fragile
wnd.com ^ | 3/5/2019 | Walter Williams

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims that “the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.” The people at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change agree, saying that to avoid some of the most devastating impacts of climate change, the world must slash carbon emissions by 45 percent by 2030 and completely decarbonize by 2050.

Such dire warnings are not new. In 1970, Harvard University biology professor George Wald, a Nobel laureate, predicted, “Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.” Also in 1970, Paul Ehrlich, a Stanford University biologist, predicted in an article for The Progressive, “The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next 10 years.” The year before, he had warned, “If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.” Despite such harebrained predictions, Ehrlich has won no fewer than 16 awards, including the 1990 Crafoord Prize, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ highest award.

Leftists constantly preach such nonsense as “The world that we live in is beautiful but fragile.” “The third rock from the sun is a fragile oasis.” “Remember that Earth needs to be saved every single day.” These and many other statements, along with apocalyptic predictions, are stock in trade for environmentalists. Worse yet, this fragile-earth indoctrination is fed to the nation’s youth from kindergarten through college. That’s why many millennials support Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

Round of applause for Mr. Williams. I would say RUH ROH but I'm pretty sure he's already on their list.

It is projection. The LIB losers project their own weakness and vulnerability onto “earth”. Actually, it is they who are “fragile” (aka: losers). No matter what the circumstances of life, these losers will be losers...unhappy, helpless, hopeless and whining all the way to their death.

Leftism and Islam are far greater threats to humanity than climate change.

Those of us old enough to remember the Population Explosion, the Coming Ice Age, and similar “crises” are much more inclined to be skeptical than folks who don’t remember life before smartphones.

We should have all been dead several times over.

The environmentalists have become “the boy who cried wolf.”

It “Save the Earth” really means “Save the Earth vote democrat”. It is 100 percent political and the minute you have a Dem in charge “Sea levels begin to subside and the earth begins to heal”. Then the news is nothing but “If you were a super hero Mrs President who would you be?”

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages … And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!

When I look at the pictures in the article of the young idiots protesting it makes me a little sick. Here are people who have been given everything, whining and complaining about a nonissue because they are too stupid and lazy to engage in independent thought. They are easier to deceive than sheep and cattle.

When you are trying to get a bull into the stock trailer to go service some cows somewhere he is more than happy to jump right in. When its time to take the bull to the slaughterhouse it is a whole different story. These kids literally are not as smart as farm animals.

Amen! After 45 years of frontier life in Alaska, allow me to say that NATURE IS VENGEFUL. Otherwise, why do the weeds grow up through the cracks in the concrete? We spent most of our gardening/yard care time hacking back the wilderness. Carrying guns to go to the schoolbus stop is an interesting event. Taping up gaps around doors in winter to try to keep the wind out of the living room is another. If buildings and manmade structures are not diligently maintained, NATURE WILL TAKE THAT LAND BACK. And much sooner than one would imagine, as well...

Sorry I was looking at the article from another thread, but the same principle applies... whenever you are talking about those who do not remember life before “smartphones.

From the beginning of time, absolutely NOTHING has remained static. Orbits vary, axes shift, solar storms and flares vary in intensity and timing, glaciers advance and retreat, The US western desert was once an ocean, England was once attached to the continent, species of life develop and disappear, etc, etc. etc. It would take a huge tome to list all the alterations that have occurred NATURALLY to this planet.

If a rock band from England's album cover art says it's fragile then that's all anyone needs to know!

PS: No place in my experience has taught me more hard lessons about the facts of frontier life and nature in general that Alaska. Dealing with the realities of bitter winter cold, snow, wind, predators, is not for the faint of heart. Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami, wildfires, landslides, muskeg, winter snowfall that is over your head (I have pictures), to name the few that come easiest to mind.

I lived in several parts of Alaska's south coast over my years there, and there wasn't an easy or simple moment anywhere. As gigantic as Alaska is, these events are almost always near enough to affect human settlements to some degree.
