Democrats are doing pretty poorly overall in 2019 special elections thus far. They are at risk of giving back quite a bit of ground to the GOP if they can't right this ship.

My sister won a State House race in the midterm as a pro-life, pro-2nd amendment conservative in a district held for 12 years by a mainline democrat who didn’t have any controversial issues clouding the election. Republicans retained the House and the Senate in the State and Federal elections. 2020 with President Trump up for re-election will be a good year for Kentucky Republicans.
Governor Bevin has a good shot at getting a second term which has never happened for a Republican. (governors couldn’t succeed themselves until Patton (D) won in 1995 and 1999)
Now if we could just win the Attorney General and Sec of State offices.
