This is a pretty significant pickup for the GOP in Kentucky tonight. #SD31
Democrats are doing pretty poorly overall in 2019 special elections thus far. They are at risk of giving back quite a bit of ground to the GOP if they can't right this ship.

“Them winning the House may have helped Trump in terms of 2020.”
It CLEARLY has. The only thing worse for the Democrats than having a bunch of absolutely INSANE people speaking for their party was having the same, plus with political power - which is now what they have in the House.
p.s., I still think Trump slipped a bunch of cash to the Dems so that they could win the House - this is a dream come true for him.
Losing the House in the midterms may have been a blessing in disguise. HouseRATs tend to be far more radical than Senate RATs, and now with freshman kooks like AOC openly espousing the socialist agenda, and Illhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib expressing their anti-Semitic and anti-Israel rants they look totally unhinged. If they go for and pass a bill demanding reparations for Blacks the Dems will get hammered next year, provided that their vote fraud shenanigans will be shut down!
Dont forget that MOST of these RINOS we rid ourselves of rode in on the Tea Party wave and became RINOS very quickly after entering THE SWAMP!!!! Mia Love was one right off hand that became a HUGE disappointment!!! I have NO FAITH any longer on who we send to DC, we may have rid ourselves of RINOS however I wouldnt count on replacements NOT becoming RINOS shortly after entering DC!!! We NEED term limits it is the ONLY way to fix this corruption and K-Street payoffs, these BASTARDS will never vote for term limits and without them our republic will always be corrupt!!!
..it’s strange how an election swings red when the voting is not tampered with...
Democrat Darrell Pugh, left, and Republican Phillip Wheeler are vying for an open state Senate seat in Eastern Kentucky.
PIKEVILLE Voters in five Eastern Kentucky counties will decide Tuesday who should replace former state Senate Minority Floor Leader Ray Jones in a special election marked by mudslinging. Both candidates describe themselves as pro-coal, pro-life and pro-gun, and have promised to stand up for public employees and teachers in the ongoing debate over state pensions.
Kentucky state Senate, not federal. Still counts as a win, tho.
LS: Good to see others were thinking of you early on in this thread.
Yes, losing the House was bad, very bad. But it did several things I am only now becoming aware of:
1. Threw Ryan out as Speaker-in-Name-Only. Without his opposition to Trump, the remaining repubbies have eliminated a major opponent.
2. McConnell is (somewhat) now cowed, and SC’s McCain-fiend (er, friend) Graham is no longer locked in McCain’s shadow as a easy-interview, an easy enemy-of-Trump in front of the cameras.
3. Pelosi’s extremism is visible in all its hypocrisy. As is Cumming’s, Water’s, Nadler’s, AOC’s, hijab’s, and the rest.
4. Ryan - to CREATE the November 2018 blue wave! - had to encourage dozens of older RINO’s to “retire” (er, quit) so democrats were NOT running against incumbents. That, along with hundreds of thousands of illegal and after-the-election votes in California, enabled Pelosi to rise.
But it also removed those RINO-GROPElites from office!
Dems taking control of the House had nothing to do with Ryan leaving the Speakership - he did not run for re-election and was no longer going to be a member of the House regardless.
But, but, but, you know this guy can’t be a solid on gerbil worming, racism, women’s rights, and OAC. LMAO...
Yup. The MSM is the Countrys greatest threat.
Now both ATT and Comcast control the news. Both should be broken up. Sickening.
They have taken notice and they love McConnell, too. He will never be defeated in a primary and he knows it, so there you go.
Second, McConnell is not cowed, as evidenced by bringing to vote the Trump emergency declaration for the border. He continues the high intensity, low visibility battle with Trump. As many senators have said over the years. I was here before the president and I will be here after the president.
There are still plenty of RINOs in office - plenty.
Granted, Ryan did not “lose” the Speaker position by election, but he lost it by selection: he CHOSE not to run again with trump as president pushing an agenda he (Ryan) did NOT want in any shape or means.
Ryan also CHOSE to encourage the “retirement” of nearly 40 senior RINO’s in 2018, giving them an excuse/reason to leave positions open rather than staying on a fighting for Trump’s positions, policies, budgets, and platforms.
An effective, dynamic leader would not have abandoned Trump to Pelosi and the NYTimes/WashPo’s publicity in 2018. He WANTED Trump to fail. That does, of course, leave the positionopen for him in 2020 (if Trump is impeached)/2024 (fighting Pence as nominal lead)/2028 (after Pence leaves in failure like Bush I/Dole/W).
Heard the race where the republican won by 28,000 votes in Connecticut is suddenly up by 8,000...magically 20000 votes have appeared ...They’re going to steal this one too and the RNc is nowhere in sight! Consider this flip a loss!! They know they can steal elections like taking candy from a child!!
Your thought of "an effective, dynamic leader would not have abandoned Trump to Pelos, etc." is spot on 100%. If those in the House really wanted to change things they would have stayed and fought, so in the short run, it is a disaster with the Dems going to hound Trump until the day he leaves office.
However, in trying to see both sides, Ryan never wanted to be Speaker and no conservative stepped forward, either. Jim Jordan finally stepped up after the election and lost the Minority Leader position to McCarthy, who is fairly moderate but pretends to be conservative when everyone is watching. The members vote on these folks, so who is really to blame?
There wasnt a single special election in Connecticut where 20k votes were cast.
The GOP flipped 2 seats there, SD-6 and HD-99 with 53% and 54% of the vote respectively.
Why make up a story like this? The facts are easy to find.

Sorry if I’m mistaken but I just read it..probably someone being cautious!
That’s a quite a fair argument...but the Dems taking control or not taking control had nothing to do with Ryan continuing as Speaker...that’s all I was pointing out.
The Dems did not win in a massive landslide and it is pretty clear that without all of those retirements we would have had a much clearer shot at holding the House...that many open seats stretches resources very thin.
Turns out butchering children isnt terribly popular.
The previous rat State Senator in that district was unopposed the last 3 times, including 2016 when Trump got over 80%!!! It was also a 58% Bevin district.
So while it’s great we won it, we had to, and it shouldn’t have been as close as it was.
Speaking of Bevin? What’s up? Bunzburger keeps tweeting about how’s he’s unpopular and almost drew a strong primary challenger.
