Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day,” host John Berman asked former National Intelligence Director James Clapper about The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald saying he lied to Congress about the NSA program used to spy on Americans’ phone records.

If you listen to the original clip, it is clear that Wyden did not reference any particular NSA program. He asked if the NSA collects many thousands of conversation involving Americans. No answered, “No, not wittingly.”

So when he says he thought Wyden was asking him about one particular program, he is lying again.

I have this "one weird trick" that I use when I don't understand the question.

I tell the questioner that I don't understand the question, and ask them to repeat the question, or clarify the question. ;-)

Clapper was accused of perjury for telling a congressional committee that NSA does not collect any type of data on Americans.

One senator asked for his resignation, and a group of 26 senators complained about Clapper's responses under questioning.

In November 2016, Clapper resigned as director of national intelligence, effective at the end of President Obama's term.

In May 2017, he joined the Washington, D.C.–based think tank the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) as a Distinguished Senior Fellow for Intelligence and National Security.
