I’ve said from the day Trump was inaugurated they should do a reverse auction for wall-builders. Let’s see who’s hungry and who’s got the best ideas and highest efficiency.

I remember reading about the big dam projects and
how the construction companies got together to bid and
build it and how workers came from all over America just to work on it.

I hope Trump will come up with something like that,
farming it out to small contractors is not the way to
go on a project of this scale.

Apparently Tommy Fisher has never worked on a Government contract before.

First, he'll have to pay "prevailing wages" to his crew, which will be double what he normally pays them.

Then he will have to submit all of the paperwork that he is complying with the Fair Labor Act, the Equal Opportunities to Minorities and Snowflakes Act, the Don't Kill Fuzzy Pink Frogs Act, etc.

Then he will have to submit to an audit by the IRS, DEA, NCAA, etc. to make sure his books are properly cooked.

By the time he's finished, $8 billion won't be enough for the 234 miles of fence.

For that matter, I will take a few buddies of mine and build a billion dollars’ worth of wall, however many miles that covers.

Yes, Mr. President, the aforementioned is a bona fide offer and upon acceptance, we will be on the job withing days

Your staff can reach me through the usual channels.

Respectfully,

I say again:

IF President Trump would call for VOLUNTEERS with construction experience to help build the wall——

Give them places to park their RV’s & travel trailers.

Set up military kitchens & mess tents to FEED them—24/7 for free.

Utilize wives & girlfriends to help with feeding them.

Bring in the semi trailers that are portable laundries.

Use Kleig lights for 24 hour construction.

Thousands of people would respond-—

Think bout telling your grand kids that YOU HELPED TO ACTUALLY BUILD THE WALL !!!!!

We need a light missile that imparts some kind of very powerful STUN and majorly effs up infiltrators:

We could put a couple of those on Raptors and cheaply patrol the whole border.

We could have 30-50 of those suckers up there, flying around at any one time.

The infiltrators would get effed up, then need medical care (assuming their comrades don’t carry them up), then after sorta stabilizing them we could send them off to some WORK camp for some years, to pay us back for our trouble.

From the article:
If they do the small procurements as they are now … that’s not going to cut it.

Quick, off the top response: "BS".

There are distinct boundaries of economies of scale here.

The economies are with local/regional contractors, or groups of smaller contractors with a history of successful joint ventures - all using local talent and relying on verified local cost histories. (Added benefits: local pride and local appreciation of the cash inflow, both of which lead to a better product.)

Using large companies with only a lesser blend of local craft and management experience or cost histories could well lead to speculative bidding which leads to uncertain outcomes.

Fortunately, this may be Trump's first Wall, but it is not his first rodeo.

This is a contracting or procurement disaster. Time for companies like this one to be given immediate contract to get the work started. It is a national emergency now, not 10 years from now.

The US Army Corps of Engineers has a long list of accomplishments, but fast and economical are not on their resume.

Fisher Sand and Gravel says on their Facebook page that "there is NO need for a see through wall. We are able to back fill to create elevated roadways for our border patrol agents. Having an elevated vantage point is far more substantial than the ground level view through a fence!"

The system they will use to pour the concrete fence:

RE: Company offers to build 234 miles of border wall for $1.4 billion

Some questions arise:

1) With what kind of labor?

2) What kind of “wall” ( note the quotes ) will it look like?

3) What location will the Wall be built?

**The Army Corps of Engineers has procured around 75 miles but has not awarded $900 million for the project of the $1.35 billion that was in the 2018 omnibus. **

misleading. ‘awarded’ is being used here to substitute for ‘cut the check’. Most of the funds have been ‘committed’.

” a misleading talking point that makes it sound as if Trump’s administration is dawdling on the border wall at the center of the government funding dispute.
The 6 percent figure refers to actual checks that have been cut. But at this early stage of a multi-year construction project, the more relevant figure is how much money has been committed under contract. That’s about 60 percent — 10 times the figure that Murphy and other Democrats have used.”
