President Trump vowed to issue an executive order protecting free speech at America’s universities Saturday as he invited Hayden Williams, a conservative victim of leftist violence on campus, to share the stage with him at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference.
“We reject oppressive speech codes, censorship, political correctness and every other attempt by the hard left to stop people from challenging ridiculous and dangerous ideas. These ideas are dangerous,” Trump said March 2 in a speech that was interrupted by chants of “USA! USA! USA!” “Instead we believe in free speech, including online and including on campus.”
“Today I’m proud to announce that I will be very soon signing an executive order requiring colleges and universities to support free speech if they want federal research grants.”
“If they want our dollars, and we give it to them by the billions, they’ve got to allow people like Hayden and many other great young people and old people to speak. Free speech. If they don’t, it will be very costly,” he said. “Every day we’re restoring common sense and the timeless values that unite us all. We believe in the Constitution and the rule of law.”

He is not only right; right in theory & right in the quality of education. He has here identified what could & should be a seminal issue in breaking the Left’s hold on our college aged youth! This obviously, cuts in several ways.
Yes he’s right but this is toothless. Do you know of any college that publicly states it does not support free speech? I don’t.
I’ve heard this before in respect to Sanctuary Cities.
Some judge stopped any denial of funds from happening.

It’s about time! If they want to spout the Commie-Socialist line, let them pay for it themselves.
One of the oldest principles of University is Academic Freedom. In contemporary setting, university faculty demanded this for themselves when they created the concept of tenure. It’s a shame they then turn around and don’t offer the same protections to students who wish to challenge the orthodoxy.
I am not sure how much an executive order can actually do. But, there are certainly levers of government that can be brought to bear, such as Title IX, Title VI and Title VII. Perhaps the EO will direct the Cabinet to step up investigations and punitive action against violators.

I don’t know every detail but “safe zones” may qualify. It’s not just the stated policies but their actions. If they don’t provide equal protections, if various administration committees create de facto intimidation or retribution etc a case can be made. What was the University recently that admitted in court they had put every Christian group on a secret watch-list? I’m sure they had official “inclusive” policies but its their actions that count.

We can start with every university that has cancelled a speech by an opponent of leftwing ideology. We can also look at every university with a comfort pet program and quiet rooms created due to students being triggered. Every anti-conservative document, poster, protest march needs to be investigated. While they are at it, they need to look at every diversity program to ensure that no one was rejected due to color, religion or political influence.
Yeah, this can take a while, but it will be a fruitful investigation.
