The Two Parties are not sustainable.
The most astute observation I've heard in recent years about this subject came from a human resources expert at an industry conference I attended. He said the problem with today's political process in the U.S. is that the two major parties are aligned in a way that made sense 40+ years ago when we were an industrial economy, but don't make sense anymore. Now, you have an upside-down scenario where the Democrats are the war-mongering corporate globalists and the Republicans -- only by default, not by principle -- have become more of a nationalist/populist party.
Yes. We have the Trumplicans
Democrats (formerly known as repubs)
Communists
Super Communists
You’re right in their present form they are not.
But we will always come down to a two parties. They may have different names but in the end there will be two, Our system was purposely designed by the Founding Fathers to minimize “factions (Their term for parties!)”. The minimum is 2 unless you want a one party state. The only way we will have a sustained multi-party system where there are multiple (more then 2!) competing political parties is if we have constitutional changes that move us to a parliamentary system. This would be something I would strongly oppose.
The two parties suck. I heard one person say, “The Democrats rob the bank and the Republicans drive the getaway car.”
I’ve always thought that the political spectrum was being over-simplified. There are at least 3 axis that I perceived. Social issues, economic issues, and international issues.
I’m conservative on 2 and moderate on international issues as I believe we need to participate to keep an eye on things and nudge when needed, but not put our thumb in the pie all the time.
