Anti-conservative censorship online has gone from bad to worse. As major social media platforms start to target me for censorship, I shudder to think what it means for millions of other Americans, especially as we approach the 2020 presidential campaign.
As Jussie Smollett’s preposterous story about being beaten in a racist, homophobic attack was falling apart, I posted about it on Facebook-owned Instagram, pointing out how unbelievable his allegation was in the first place.
After I let my followers know my thoughts on the Smollett hoax, I received a notification that Instagram deleted my post. When I complained about this blatant censorship, Instagram claimed it was a mistake. My post had just been removed “in error,” the company said. Rather than get better, though, the situation just got worse. Conservatives soon let me know by direct message that Instagram was preventing them from following my account, or even sharing or liking any of my posts.
I’m sure Instagram will claim that this, too, was all just a terrible mistake. It’s funny how these “mistakes” never seem to happen to liberals at the critical moment of a news cycle. More to the point, if this is really a “mistake,” then why does it keep happening?
Just as the Smollett hoax is merely the latest of dozens of nonexistent hate crimes blamed on Trump supporters, my experience isn’t nearly the first time that conservatives have been censored by social media platforms.
Instagram also deleted a post from former Republican National Committee spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany when she tried to highlight Elizabeth Warren’s lies about her ancestry. As soon as censorship of McEnany became a headline, Instagram once again claimed it was all a “mistake.” If not for conservative media, the social media giant may never be held accountable.

History will show that organizing Big Tech into a quasi-governmental institution with unwavering allegiance to the Democratic Party was Barack Obama’s crowning achievement as President. Fortunately, Donald Trump Jr. has of late embraced this is his cause.

Yep. Regulate big Tech like utilities. They should be completely barred from exercising editorial control over any but clearly illegal speech. There should be a complete ban on their ability to refuse or limit service.

Censoring conservative viewpoints in an election cycle should be considered a campaign contribution. Maybe the FEC should be looking into whether or not these deletions are intended to affect election outcomes.
I have one real "social media" account that is really a "business networking" tool.
This seems like a marvelous opportunity for someone to come up with a competitor to all these stupid social media giants.
I’m no lawyer, but I don’t understand why a bakery has to bake a cake for anyone who asks, but a business like Instagram can just censor Conservatives if it chooses.
I guess I’d be OK if business had total freedom — then the counter issue from the 1950s is reversed, and if your restaurant doesn’t want to serve blacks, that’s OK. And if don’t want to bake a cake, that’s OK. And you want to shut out Trump Jr., that’s OK. It may be a stupid business practice, but the business can make that decision and face the consequences in the marketplace.
But as I interpret the court cases: You can’t do that stuff.

I’m very glad this was posted just now. I was not aware of his being censored in this manner. We all need to know that it’s happening. They are becoming bolder.
#1..Question: WHO would be the one to make an issue of this?
Who would formally propose regulating some of these Social Media sources, the president?
#2..Is such a proposal to regulate, something that could be blocked , diluted or permanently tabled by RINOs like McConnell?
When Laura Loomer was banned from Twitter, she started posting over at Gab and immediately she was swarmed by anti-semitic comments. I appreciate Gab's freedom of speech stance but when all you have become is an abode for neo-Nazis, we might as well post on Stormfront.
Yeah it’s a shame Gab has been hijacked in its infancy. Twitter would ban Trump if they thought they could get away with it.
