(CNN) - Edward Nixon, former President Richard Nixon's youngest and last surviving brother, died Wednesday. He was 88.
He had been living in a skilled nursing facility in Bothell, Washington.
In the past 25 years since Richard Nixon's death, Edward Nixon had become "our family's rock," his nieces, Tricia Nixon Cox and Julie Nixon Eisenhower, said in a statement.
"He was a source of guidance to our father, whose favorite little Eddie grew up into a renowned geologist with an infectious curiosity," they said. "He was always thinking, always working -- never for his own benefit, but to uncover the answers to questions that science poses in our world."

No statement on how much he despises Trump? C’mon CNN. You’re slipping...
I remember him at Nixon’s funeral. He was crying. It was very moving. RIP.
Edward Nixon had become “our family’s rock,”
The rock just sank.
Sorry...
88 is a nice age to live to, though I have more 90 year old Italians that wont die in my family than I can count.
17 years his junior. Parents were active.
Wow!
Yeah, what is it about Italians? My uncle married into an Italian family and both of his in-laws lived to within a couple weeks of their 100th. birthdays.
Incredibly healthy Mediterranean diet.
I was healthy as heck until I moved out.
If I see 70 it will be a miracle :)
Still, despite my horrifically unhealthy lifestyle, doctors are baffled at my blood test result each year.
It will catch up with me but I think some of us from certain areas of the boot have good genes.
100th!!!
None of my grandparents made it that far.
So actually my whole healthy eating thing went out the window too.
MY mother and aunts and uncles are living very long.
Maybe eating healthy COMBINED with the new medical innovations is leading them past 90.
Come to think of it, almost every one that is 90 or older had an illness or sickness that would have taken them in their 70s and 80s 50 years ago.
OK i’m done :)
They’ll have someone come on with a Ouji board and channel his spirit to bash President Trump for the Sunday news hour.
Mr. Nixon visited us in the early 90’s (Shirley and I do J&S Electronics from our home). I think he was involved with O2 sensors or mass air sensors, at the time.
Not arrogant at all, a very nice man.
Well, in a way the mere reporting on this can be viewed skeptically. I wonder if this gets any reporting at all but for the Cohen hearings?
RIP.
Nixon brought the China hate America deal to our shores.
Loser.

I have met Ed Nixon on several occasions. He was an occasional visitor at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, Calif. He looked a lot like Richard.
Nixon also nailed Alger Hiss and in so doing woke us up to the reality of Soviet espionage. And as president, he saved Israel.
“Incredibly healthy Mediterranean diet.”
I knew, I just knew that spaghetti, lasagne, pizza, pasta fazool, chicken cacciatore, chianti, Ghisa etc are good for you!
ROFL!!
Where the hell you been? Haven’t seen you for a while.
Though I took a break myself.
Hope you are well.
