I did some online research and there appear to be several cheap brands which are named similarly to stolichnaya. Probably to intentionally confuse the consumer. Starka or the Polish brands would have been better choices.

It is a language thing. All names sound alike. The only brand intentionally similar to Stoli is ‘Prazdnichnaya’ which copies the design of the bottle and labels are very similar. Although they were in a legal battle over it and since I haven’t seen Prazdnichnaya for a long time I guess it lost.

Indeed! I’ll take my 5th of twenty-five -year -old bottle of Stolichnaya Cristall any day over anything else. You can only get it by special order from a Russian embassy. Well you use to back in ‘76 when it cost something over $250 per bottle. Things change.
