UPDATE
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released the following statement about the decision:
House Democrats chose today to make a purely political statement against President Trump instead of taking seriously the national emergency at our countrys southern border. The Presidents declaration along with legislative action to appropriate funds for border security will answer the call from experts and border security personnel on the ground to provide the resources needed to stop illegal entry into our country and the dangers associated with it.
Through their resistance, Democrats are closing their eyes and turning their backs to human trafficking victims, victims of drug addiction, and Angel Families who have lost loved ones.
Not only does the President have the legal authority to declare this national emergency under two federal statutes, the move is far from unprecedented: there are currently 31 national emergencies still in effect since the National Emergencies Act was enacted by Congress in 1976.
House Republicans will continue to listen to the experts and the American people, who agree we need stronger border security. I invite House Democrats to join us in protecting the citizens of the United States.
Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) released the following statement:
While Speaker Pelosi and her liberal lieutenants refuse to support the money necessary to secure our border, President Trump took an oath to keep our country safe, and is using all legal tools available to protect Americans from the crime, drugs, and human trafficking that comes across our southern border every day. Speaker Pelosis resolution blocking the national emergency declaration is another example of her refusal to secure our border, and would leave Americans less safe. I was proud to stand with victims of illegal immigrant crime today and vote against this useless and irresponsible resolution.
ORIGINAL
The House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday evening to overturn President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration along the southern border. The declaration was a way for Trump to build his highly-anticipated border wall without Congressional approval.
The predominately came down party lines, with the exception of one Republican, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MN), who voted with Democrats in opposition to the declaration.
Amash took to Twitter to explain his vote while also slamming fellow Republicans:
The same congressional Republicans who joined me in blasting Pres. Obamas executive overreach now cry out for a king to usurp legislative powers. If your faithfulness to the Constitution depends on which party controls the White House, then you are not faithful to it.
The vote passed with a vote of 245-182.
I stand corrected. Thanks
Who is surprised by that.
A 2/3 majority in each.
Amen to that!
Jamie Herrera Beutler is my Congresswoman and she’s one of the turncoats, I’m beside myself.
But not enough to overturn:
A VETO
Checkmate
I don’t have enough fingers on both my hands to count that!

No surprise. The Marxists are united in their effort to destroy this Republic.
Thank you!
I like Justin Amash, for the most part. I'm proud to call him my Congressman. He's one of the few truly principled people in that entire shitty town.
And in case you hadn't noticed, the Democrats control the House. I love how people can turn an glaringly obvious vote into to opportunity to form a circular firing squad.
Really? So attempting to usurp Presidential authority granted by the Constitution is "principled?"
This is a tremendous victory for Trump. The vote fell well short of the 291 necessary to override the veto. We now build the wall!!
You’re entitled to your opinion, my opinion is every Republican should be supporting President Trump!
TWO from Michigan.
Wow. Sorry Mr. President.
This, like most everything Congress does, is BS posturing for the next election. They dont really give a rats rear end about the issue other than a vote against Trump.
They are skating on thin ice.
Maybe the Senate will send the Resolution back to the House as a suppository.
= = =
Just give them the chance to make sure it is a ‘used’ suppository.
That is pretty good solidarity by House republicans.
Amash should switch parties.
