A new bill in California seeks to intrude on one of the most sacred relationshipsthat between clergy and penitent in formal confession. Currently, clergy members are already mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect, but sins confessed specifically in confession are exempt under current law from mandatory reporting.
Bill 360, introduced by Democrat state Sen. Jerry Hill, would delete that exception for a penitential communication, thereby requiring clergy to make a mandated report even if they acquired the knowledge or reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect during a penitential communication. This is an egregious overreach of secular authority, stepping into sacred religious rites, and will not protect children or stem the tide of child abuse.

The Progressives have lost this battle before.
They would have more success if they were to apply this idea to lawyers.
Where’s the separation between church and state they keep clamoring about?
Catholic priests have died horrible deaths for not revealing what they heard in confession.
So what. If the Pastor doesn’t want to pas on the information, he can serve Jesus as a pastor to the inmates behind bars. It would be best if the state was not doing this, but my allegiance is to Jesus first, and if I go to jail for it, God has a reason for me to be there.
I got sent to Sierra Leone during the Ebola epidemic and God had a very good reason to send me there. The best three years of my Christian life.
Since the MSM refer to Trumps lawyer as fixed, I am likewise referring to all of them as fixers.
Young boys have spent a lifetime in a living hell by the hands of priests.
Most priests have voided their sacramental (and legal) immunity IMO.
When they stay silent on homosexual pedophiles and pederasts in their midst, why should they be above the law?
The “progressives” would not lose this battle before a jury. Only a Catholic judge(s) would rule in their favor.
Client-Lawyer privilege Has gone to hell.(Trump/Cohen) This seems like the next logical commie step.
Have you noticed that there are a lot more commercials about telling your doctor about how you are feeling during your doctor’s visit?
Remember that medical records are subject to subpoena. With the “red flag” laws, you could loose your gun rights just because you told your doctor you were feeling down.
Religion is protected by amendment, just like the media, so, we need to force journalists to give up their sources, as well.
One unconstitutional deed deserves another....;)
Meanwhile, government agencies operate in secrecy.
Unless you are making a face to face confession, how does a priest know who you are? Our church gives the option of both a confession behind a screen or face to face. Sometimes people don’t always go to the same church for confession.
“They would have more success if they were to apply this idea to lawyers.”
In progress now with Mike Cohen.
I thought leftist demanded separation of church and state?
This would end rather abruptly once parishioners started confessing to false crimes.
“Catholic priests have died horrible deaths for not revealing what they heard in confession.”
If you go to one church on a regular basis, there is a
good chance they’ll recognize your voice.

Actual Christians profess their sins directly to the Father, as intended by Christ. There is no Biblical basis for a middle man like a priest.
Absolutely agree.
Any priest who uses confession to protect a pederast is likely one himself and belongs in jail anyway.
It remains shocking to me that the Church didn’t come down on sex abuse like a sledgehammer, but instead chose to protect it from the highest to the lowest levels. They have to be incredibly sick freaks, up to their necks in it and then some, in order to react the way they have.
