GOP Sen. Thom Tillis says he'll vote for resolution blocking Trump's emergency declaration

Sen. Thom Tillis said in a column posted Monday evening that he will oppose President Trump’s declaration of a border-security emergency.

In an op-ed for the Washington Post, the North Carolina Republican said he would support a resolution blocking Mr. Trump’s decree when it comes before the Senate.

“I would vote in favor of the resolution disapproving of the president’s national-emergency declaration, if and when it comes before the Senate,” he concluded the column after laying out his support for Mr. Trump’s border-security agenda in general and criticizing Democrats’ obstructionism on the matter.

But he said it’s a matter of separation of powers and warned Republicans that declaring states of emergency to get around Congress could come back to bite them.

He is toast in NC, conservatives will not forget this. I will under vote if he is on th ballot.

I feel the same way with my senator cory gardner in Colorado. He has not stated his position yet, but I already know he will join romney and bubble boy to not support Trump. That makes at least 6. They need 19, I think.

Thom Tillis is my senator and I am terribly disappointed in his failure to support the construction of the border fence. To say you oppose the barrier fence is the same as saying you oppose the defense of the USA mainland. That I cannot tolerate, and won’t.

The separation of powers argument is weak. Congress passed legislation giving the power to the President.

Enjoy your single term, Tillis.

Most of these virtue signalling Senators are not going to run again. As Rush says, they are just flipping the bird at us for daring to elect POTUS.

LOL. The arrogance is breathtaking. I myself will register my “vote of disapproval” in 2022 should Trump not be in the White House and Little Marco Rubio on my ballot.

The separation of powers argument is weak.

But the powers of drug-trafficking to Congress is strong...

The problem is Thom Tillis is not your Senator. He represents the big donor wing of the GOP. The Party of Lincoln has chosen K Street over Main Street and it will be their end. The GOP coalition has been splintered forever by Never Trumpism.
