President Trump slammed Oscar winner Spike Lee for making a “racist hit” on him during his Academy Award acceptance speech Sunday night.
“Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!,” Trump tweeted on Monday morning.
Lee was accepting an Oscar for best-adapted screenplay for his movie “BlackKklansman” when he referred to the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
Before the world tonight, I give praise to my ancestors who built our country, along with the genocide of our native people, the “She’s Gotta Have It” director said. When we regain our humanity it will be a powerful moment. The 2020 election is around the corner lets all mobilize and be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate.
“Lets do the right thing! You know I had to get that in there,” he added.
Lee accepted the award with co-writers David Rabinowitz, Charlie Wachtel and Kevin Willmott.
The movie, based in the 1970s, follows a black police officer in Colorado who dupes the Ku Klux Klan into thinking he’s a white man.
It closes with images taken from real footage of the “Unite the White” rally in Charlottesville, Va., in August 2017 that led to the death of Heather Heyer.
She was killed when a Nazi sympathizer drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters.
Trump was highly criticized for his remarks about the white supremacist rally, especially the comment “you had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”
