In a social media post that has since been removed, the Oregon City Police wrote, Thank you Benchmade Knife Company for assisting us today by cutting up guns that are ready to be destroyed.
The backlash against Benchmades willingness to cut up firearms was intense, and the Oregon City Police used a Facebook post to try to quell the publics outrage: We understand some of our followers are upset with Benchmade knives because of a recent post we put out. The post did not give everyone the full story on why the guns were required to be destroyed.
We receive guns that are turned in from community members that they no longer want the guns and want them destroyed. We also have guns that are evidence and when a case is adjudicated the guns are ordered by the court to be destroyed.
These guns were required to be destroyed. We reached out to Benchmade to do us a favor at our request. Benchmade is a strong supporter of law enforcement and the Oregon City community. We were present when the guns were cut and we took them for final destruction.

I have bought their knives in the past.
I’ll take great pride in never doing the same.
I’ll encourage my friends to do likewise.
F you Benchmade. Complicit in crimes against humanity.
“The post did not give everyone the full story on why the guns were required to be destroyed.”
Don’t want to hear it. There is no justification.
Hm. Sounds like they’re destroying guns that weren’t forcibly taken from law abiding gun owners, but if I were running that company I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near it just from the optics standpoint. I don’t mind helping out law enforcement, but it doesn’t seem like they should need a knife company to help destroy guns. I carry cheaper Kershaws anyway.
Rock, paper, scissors.
They should probably start selling them at Dick’s, right alongside Yeti.
Then again Dick’s is out of the hunting sales business, they may nor even want them.
Go “register your knife” with Benchmade!
You can “name your knife” —fun!
Also they want to know “What you find most attractive about Benchmade”.
Why be boring, riiiight..?
Rock, paper, .357 magnum.
Benchmade is dead to me.
Ironic that just today I was considering finally buying a Benchmade Infidel. Not now.
There is no shortage of serviceable firearms in America.
Kershaw and a Buck are good alternatives as long as their management doesnt do anything stupid.
I’ve carried Spyderco knives for years now. A whole lot cheaper and indestructible.
This is in Oregon where draconian gun laws are being proposed. The Oregon plan is to have a shortage of firearms.
And ammunition. Like a 20 round purchase limit per month.
Firearms are destroyed by police all the time. I don’t know what the outrage is, unless you believe guns used in crimes or turned in to the police voluntarily is somehow a bad thing. I can understand if you believe that the police confiscated firearms from lawful owners, but I didn’t get that part of the story.
It’s better if the firearm is made unservicable by a reputable company in the light of day than taken to the incinerator in serviceable condition and pilfered by sticky fingered truckers or incinerator workers along the way. Benchmade probably just happened to be a convenient location with trustworthy employees and hefty metal cutting tools
Still, there should be a way for people to dispose of firearms they no longer want in their possession and law enforcement should take on the responsibility of providing such a service seeing how they don't want people just leaving them out in the recycle bins.
Some may ask why the police can't just sell them? Because the first time a firearm is used to commit a violent crime that can be traced back to a police sale, all hell is going to break loose.
I will not buy benchmade again. I dont need to know the full story. Unless the story is the police took us hostage and forced us to destroy firearms then there is no excuse. This will be posted on knife forums. Destroying firearms is anti American.
I always liked their knives.
To hell with them.
