Moments after Chicago cops laid out their case against Smollett, the CNN pundit made the eyebrow-raising comparison during a conversation with anchor Kate Bolduan.
“This is the fall of an icon and I don’t think people understand how important he has been in the black community.
‘Empire’ as a show, to have him as a beloved character, I think did a great deal to knock back homophobia in the black community,” Jones said.
“The fact that he has been celebrated and you see homophobia in the black community through his eyes on the show, this is a Jackie Robinson against homophobia.”
As for Smollett, 36, he is accused of orchestrating an elaborate hoax involving two "bogus" hate crimes -- one involving an alleged attack, and one involving a threatening letter -- all in order to get a pay raise.
Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Smollett orchestrated a "phony attack" in order to take "advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career" during a press conference on Thursday.

“A woman has claimed she saw a white “redneck” man, with a length of rope or clothesline, loitering outside Jussie Smollett’s apartment building in Chicago, Illinois, hours before he was viciously assaulted.

According to editors at TMZ, the unnamed woman, who claims to be a neighbour, alleged she saw a suspicious man, who looked like a “redneck”, pacing agitatedly outside the star’s building as she took her dogs out for a walk at 12.30am – 90 minutes before Smollett was ambushed.”
“He looked out of place,” she said, reported the website, adding that the man was dressed in a blue sweatshirt, a blue beanie, and jeans that were too short that exposed his “thick grey hunting socks”. The woman also said he was smoking a cigarette and had a length of blue and white rope or “clothesline” hanging out of his zip-up sweater. And she saw another man about 300ft away standing nearer the entrance and described being “creeped out” by the loitering men.
“Van Jones is delusional. I doubt that most people knew who Smollet was until this hate crime hoax took place.“
Unless Smollet gets nailed by the feds it seems his plan might be working out. Who doesn’t know who he is now? I don’t think the scum running Hollyweird will hold lying about MAGA supporters against him.

The New York Times published a feature on Smollett and his family in March 2016. The article described the Smollett children as being “raised in the orbit of the Black Panthers.” It adds that the family has recently “lent their voices” to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Smollett told the Times in 2016 that his mother is African-American and is originally from New Orleans. She met his father in the Bay Area, where Joel Smollett Sr. lived. Smollett said, “My mom was in the movement with Bobby Seale and Huey Newton, and one of her first mentors was Julian Bond. To this day, Angela Davis is one of her dearest friends. We’ve spent Mother’s Day with Angela.” During the same interview, Smollett referred to the families dietary habits as “Blewish.”
Van Jones celebrates criminals, it explains why the Left still celebrate Al Sharpton.

I had no idea who Smellette was or that he even existed until this hoax was revealed. At no time did I ever believe this happened so when it first hit the news cycle; that’s when it was a hoax.

This has been a very interesting event/issue in Chicago re the Fake Hate Crime.
Expect future Fake Hate Crime thugs to get hammered even worse except in the cities listed below.
NYC, DC, Portland, Gay Frisco and LA will be exceptions. Fake hate crimes are/will be celebrated and wonderful events in these $h*tholes.
