Yes, Congress is aware the national debt recently surpassed $22 trillion for the first time in U.S. history.
No, members don’t think they’ll do anything to seriously address it anytime soon.
“I don’t see anybody prioritizing it, and sadly folks often prioritize things when crisis hits. I don’t want a debt spiral crisis to hit,” said Rep. Rob Woodall, Georgia Republican. “I hear lots of conversations about how to spend a whole lot more.”
With the spending process for 2019 now wrapped up, lawmakers are turning their attention to exactly how they plan to avoid $126 billion in cuts set to kick in this October because of Obama-era budget caps.
“I don’t see at this point a lot of appetite for cutting spending,” said House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth, Kentucky Democrat.
President Trump likewise has ruled out major cuts to entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security — the key drivers of the debt — as he has overseen an increase of about $2 trillion since taking office two years ago.
Mr. Trump has “always been concerned” about the level of debt, said Larry Kudlow, one of the president’s top economic advisers.
But Mr. Kudlow said there shouldn’t be too many practical consequences to the escalating red ink as long as the economy keeps humming.
“As the growth continues, we believe 3 percent growth, I think you’ll see deficits as a share of GDP keep falling,” he said. “I don’t think that’s an issue, a problem. We’re sticking with 3 percent growth. This economy’s very strong.”

Of course not. Their power, and probably most of their bankrolls, increase with every dollar spent.

There will come a time of misery when we will wish we had done things differently. And there will be recriminations and finger pointing, but the people deserving will have Ill-gotten wealth and be far away.

I think he is right...in politics it doesn’t.
In real life, it does.
No one cares... Not even the people. They won’t have to pay it in their lifetime so why care? Why cramp our style? Kick it down the road and make our unborn Great Grandchildren pay it. Let it cramp their style. let them pay for our current gluttony and waste... Who cares?
I agree, disgusting pretty much says it all when our elected Reps talk like this.
But total debt as a percentage of GDP will keep increasing. It's already at 107% and climbing.

But what is true with women is also true with government.

Why would they? There's food in the grocery stores, gas is cheap, we have roofs over our heads. Consumer goods such as computers and TVs are cheaper than they've ever been. $22 trillion is a number so large it can't be comprehended. It means nothing. It's like counting the grains of sand on the beach.

That’s pathetic. Adding a trillion a year will eventually do us in.
And what should make everyone happy is that Ca is the #1 recipient of Federal Awards and Grants, even over federal programs.

It’s incredibly sad when one is faced with the realization that the majority of U.S. House and Senate members are traitors and gutless cowards.
This is the issue that will ultimately bring the United States down, and with it the whole world. And when the United States dies, it will be a new Dark Age.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who cares about our future generations. All it would take is a TEMPORARY slight inconvenience, sacrifice, and reassessment of priorities.
