She’ll show Amazon! As soon as everything is free, Amazon will have to deliver it all for nothing!

That will actually help her with the ignorant NY voters.

I agree. They think that not having jobs and being on welfare is a good thing.

She did not drive them out. There was a huge mob that did not want them there. She just glommed on to them.

The mob wasn't that big. There were two local white politicians who were afraid of being Crowleed, so they helped organized protests.

Apparently the location is surrounded by housing projects. Amazon should have known better. They were surely going to be held-up for some form of reparations.

The location wasn't surrounded by housing projects. About six blocks to the north were the Queensbridge Housing project with a population of about 7,000. The rest of LIC vibrant is probably one the fasting growing areas in the country. The amount of construction there over the last four years would rival the downtown size of many medium sized cities.

As I understand it, Amazon knew they were leaving when some local politicians who opposed them were placed on boards and committees that oversaw permits and such; they could’ve been tied up for years in red tape before getting anything going.

While people blame NYC folks for this, the people in the impacted district elected representative who supported the move (their representative Maloney, their mayor, and their governor). Cortez was just a brown interloper from a neighboring district; she made plenty of Dem enemies.

I don't recall hearing anything either way from LIC CD Rep. Maloney.

LIC's City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and State Senator Michael Gianaris, both white, saw what happened in neighboring CD14 when AOC beat Joe Crowley, who is white.

I believe their position against the deal was effected by crazy progressive, AOC's win.

She didn’t destroy any jobs.

Yes, she did. She destroyed jobs that would have been added when Amazon moved to NYC.

This is no different than having thugs destroy a car at a dealership that you were planning to buy later this week.

The car is gone...and now so are these jobs.

Maloney definitely supported the move, but probably has to keep the peace for party unity; I don’t know if she’ll say anything publicly, but there is probably quiet moves to simply replace AOC in the next election - big money may just quietly be put behind a challenger.

As for Van Bramer and Gianaris, they (and anyone representing the district) could make the case for opposing Amazon; while many here focus on the jobs lost, there could have been disastrous consequences for people actually living there - they probably wouldn’t qualify for those jobs, and would probably be forced out of their housing (and unable to afford new housing built).
