Children are our future -- and a group of Oregon lawmakers wants the future to be now.
Theyre pushing a bill that would amend Oregons constitution to lower the voting age in the state from 18 to 16. They hope to put it before voters in 2020.
Younger Oregonians should have a chance to participate in the ballot -- about decisions that affect their homes, their clean air, their future, their schools and, as weve seen, their very lives, Democratic state Sen. Shemia Fagan said at a Monday press conference announcing the measure.

Scotus...that affects the rest of the country.
Why not 12 years old. ?
They have a future too....
The voting age should be bumped up to 30 years old and you should own property.
But children are considered children up to age 26 for purposes of health insurance.
On the other hand, liberals say a 13 year old girl is an adult and can get abortions without parental consent, because for abortion purposes, children are considered adults.
The US Constitution sets the voting age at 18.
One the five great lies is that the world belongs to the young.
It does not not. The world belongs to the middle-aged. We bought from geezers who were ready to retire.
I’m being only slightly facetious here. The world does not belong to the young.
What about fetuses?
I think no one who hasnt held a job should be able to vote.
While I want to raise it to either 21 or 18 if you volunteered to serve in the military. Yes, I think putting your life on the line for the country shows more citizenship that getting a college indoctrination for yourself.
"...younger voters..."
The public school teacher unions will end up running the state.
Will they let the unborn vote so they can protect their future?????
Seems its a true life and death matter for them, thanks to leftists and liberals, is it not?
I totally agree, and I don’t own property.
Because liberalism is an emotional appeal, void of logic and reason acquired through education and experience.
Unless serving in our military, I completely agree.
Why 16? Why not 5 years old? It’s their future too.
My state used to allow sixteen year olds to drive on an annual permit until 18, and were allowed to carry passengers.
Law was changed to learner’s permit until 18 & no passengers except instructor or parent.
Teen pregnancy rate took a dive when the law changed.
As if 18 wasn’t bad enough.
We know how THAT has turned out.
Let’s lower it to conception. So the unborn can “protect their future”
