BERLIN - The Trump administration is launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of homosexuality in dozens of nations where it's still illegal to be gay, U.S. officials tell NBC News, a bid aimed in part at denouncing Iran over its human rights record.
U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration, is leading the effort, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Berlin. The U.S. embassy is flying in LGBT activists from across Europe for a strategy dinner to plan to push for decriminalization in places that still outlaw homosexuality - mostly concentrated in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.
It is concerning that, in the 21st century, some 70 countries continue to have laws that criminalize LGBTI status or conduct, said a U.S. official involved in organizing the event.
Grenell, known for his hawkish views on national security, is also currently under consideration to be Trumps ambassador to the U.N., three U.S. officials tell NBC News, after Trumps previous pick for the job, Heather Nauert, withdrew from consideration over the weekend. Grenell once served as spokesman for the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. when that role was inhabited by John Bolton, who is now Trumps national security adviser.

I see what you did here...
Nuts
Way I see it...
There’s WAY more important things to “launch an effort” against right here at home...
...One of them being a certain political party and it’s henchmen trying to stage a coup against him - and us.
This kind of stuff can wait.
Just sayin’.
I understand my comment perfectly. Sodomy is a grave evil, not something to be celebrated as “we” (mistakenly) do in these United States.
Who said anything about celebrating it? Trump wants to lead the charge to decriminalize it around the world. You know, hopefully make throwing gays off roofs crowed upon in saracen-majorith countries?
There are already articles saying his plan to do this is bad. How will the democrat base take that? I’m assuming not very well.
If Trump has caved to the queers that means hes thrown his Christian base right under the bus and theres no way in hell hell be re-elected. Until this story is verified by the White House Im not believing it. If it turns out to be true hes done. Ill damn sure never vote for him again. So Trump turns into Obama?
...we are to love one another...
Umm, that doesnt mean accept and tolerate all indecency, depravity and perversions.
We don’t throw gay men off buildings like ISIS and Muslims do, we just beat them almost to death then hang them on a barbed wire fence in the country and let them die there.
This is one of the reasons heterosexual anal sex was decriminalized a few decades ago. Execution exists in Iran and several African countries. Unfortunately, I doubt that this move will be seen as making up for denying military service to transgenders by the LGBTQ community.
and prison for adulterers too.....
You do know that Matthew Sheppard’s killer was a former lover of his... and NOT some right winger, right?
Having read this link, I can see why you said it was a former lover. Having had occasional sex does NOT make on a lover. What does come out in this link is that crystal meth and greed may have been the primary motive and not homophobia. However, I would need to read more links to form a firmer opinion. To the extent homophobia might be a factor in this case it could be a result of self-hatred by one or both of the killers.
The author, Jimenez, made extensive inquiries in town before writing his book. “Jimenez had no intention of causing such controversy. Hes an award-winning writer and TV producer, and visited Laramie shortly after the murder to gather material for a screenplay about the case. When he started he was convinced that Matthew died at the hands of homophobes, but he soon discovered that Matthews tragedy began long before the night he was killed.
Jimenez found that Matthew was addicted to and dealing crystal meth and had dabbled in heroin. He also took significant sexual risks and was being pimped alongside Aaron McKinney, one of his killers, with whom hed had occasional sexual encounters. He was HIV positive at the time of his death.
This does not make the perfect poster boy for the gay-rights movement, says Jimenez. Which is a big part of the reason my book has been so trashed.
Matthews drug abuse, and the fact that he knew one of his killers prior to the attack, was never explored in court. Neither was the rumour that the killers knew that he had access to a shipment of crystal meth with a street value of $10,000 which they wanted to steal.”
The killers later were arrested after getting into trouble while wandering around town. Looking for Sheppards hidden crystal meth???
Bad idea. That's how it started here.
Who said anything about celebrating it?
Every faggot, dyke, trans-whatever. Learn some history.
No! I hope that homosexual marriage is abolished in the U.S., but I'd much rather live with it than live in a country where homosexuals are flogged or killed.
+1
Yes! Sodomy is celebrated in these United States. That is active participation in evil. Sodomy used to be outlawed in these United States. Those countries which currently outlaw sodomy may very well impose excessive penalties for it, but they are 100% correct to outlaw that foul practice.
I am Catholic. I understand the Church considers homosexuality to be against God’s law but what is against God’s law is not in this case necessarily against criminal law.
Trump’s attempt to “decriminalize” homosexuality will not hurt him with his base since in my experience the Church has not taken a position favoring criminalization.
Hate the sin, love the sinner and all the president is doing here is trying to protect unjust prosecution.
