When a prominent Democrat has lost Chuck Todd, the handwriting is on the wall.
Three days ago, I predicted that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was sealing her fate when she took (and probably deserved) credit for killing the deal that would have brought 25,000 high-paying Amazon jobs to New York City. It's not that the young woman with boundless self-confidence in her views has no clue about how tax incentives work (though that is obviously true, since she crowed that the $3 billion in tax abatements could be spent on subways, schools, and the like). Ignorance and simple-mindedness are no obstacles to a Democrat winning approval from party bosses.
No, Sandy O's real infraction was in exposing and opposing the sweetheart deals between Democrats and the tech oligarchy. Both sides to the Grand Bargain see it as a key to their goals. The Democrats want and need the tech titans' thumbs on the scale in digital discourse and campaign donations from them. The new-age monopolists need antitrust protection for their market dominance, government contracts (see: Amazon's DOD cloud deal), and access so their concerns can be heard early, privately, and effectively, before the general public has a clue as to what is being protected, given away, or winked at.
Yesterday, we saw the first video fruits of Democrats' need to undermine and eventually unseat the Queens phenom on Meet the Press. Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and host Chuck Todd impugned her intelligence. Here is the full eight-minute segment:
The key moments making the same basic point I did in my blog three days ago, as summarized by Bruce Golding of The New York Post:

Does sleepy Chuck Todd actually know where the phrase that “the handwriting is on the wall” originates?
I don't know but thanks to your post, I just spent the last four minutes listening to a great song I haven't heard in a long time about a 17 year old girl with wonderful eyes and a risqué mouth.
Boston University, not BC
25,000 jobs x $150,000 salary = $3,750,000,00= $3.75 BILLION in taxable workers salaries, distinct from Corporate taxes.
That’s per year, every year.
State and city income taxes would have given a much needed boost to government coffers.
Among the losses add the lost sales taxes on every day items, on high end purchases, real estate taxes on the necessary housing. Big numbers.
The potential waterfall effect on NYC businesses from Starbucks, restaurants, and up would have been enormous. And it would have started on the day of opening.
Don’t need an economics history degree (whatever the hell that is) to comprehend the suicidal stupidity of AOC and the fools dancing to her tune.
Add the stupidity of not conferring with the Dem. Rep. Carolyn Maloney in whose district Amazons construction would have occurred. The Dem Long Knives will be out for the waitress/bartender. Look for the NYC red MAGA hats coming soon...
Make Alexandria Go Away!
Even better, they should be doubly ashamed.
“The truth of the matter is OCasio Cortez was right.”
She was right for the wrong reasons. She thought that she was saving $3B in other people’s money so that she could blow it on other things. She didn’t understand that the $3B were tax breaks Amazon wouldn’t have to pay over time and that Amazon would still be paying a lot in taxes. Overall, she looked like an ass, but she always looks like an ass with those teeth.
I do agree (I think) with your underlying argument that seems to be that taxes should be a one size fits all ‘scheme’ and that nobody should be favored. “Deals” like this open the doors to all sorts of corruption. Keeping your taxes for your area low (assuming you have the requisite infrastructure in place) will always attract business. Always.
“Some things that I say to her just don’t seem to bite.” Yep, Candy-O is ripe for a parody treatment.
On one side of the issue were Mayor DeBlasio, Governor Cuomo, Chuck Schumer, Jeff Bezos, and the entire New York Democratic Establishment, who wanted the deal to go through.
On the other side was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who did not want the deal to go through.
The deal did not go through. AOC won the day.
She may be an idiot, but she operates like a political Superman, zapping her opponents one by one, and nobody can seem to harm a hair on her head.
She should start a construction company that builds bridges.
Ahhh, just the latest example of the (R)N(C)’s version of “It’s not Fascism when WE do it, Comrade!”.
Used to be, those on FR would bitch/moan re: ‘social engineering via tax code’, BIG biz driving out mom/pop, if not a great gnashing of teeth via New London vs. 5th.
Now, it gets the ‘hoorah’. Hell, bring in the illegals, they’ll prop up (illegal Ponzi schemes) SS/MediXYZ (”I *paid*”), right?!
Sad.
The union auto worker, miner, plant worker pay attention. You just got pushed to the bottom of the Democrats priority. Fags, identity politics, migrants, welfare, ... are all above you. LOL. Buy a clue if you still vote D. Look in the mirror. If your white, employed, old, and not sexually deviant then you are replaced in the big D party.
So much fun. Live long and prosper NOT!
Lets play pin the tail on the donkey.
The DEMe has to handle AOC with some kid gloves because shes a Bernie Sanders stunt double. His supporters are still a little raw over how old Bernie got BOHIC d in 2016. They cant just cut her throat without pissing off a large portion of their base. She has to learn how to tell the good DEM lies. Thats my theory why they wont keep the knives out long. IMO
Since when do Dems like tax cuts, which obviously work. Isn’t this their version of trickle down economics?
She may be invincible for now, but not for long. She has made some serious Rat enemies, and she makes new enemies with each passing day.
I predict shell be a one termer. Shes causing too many problems for the Rat party.
I’ll bet the real engine behind this is the NYC real estate movers and shakers.
it’s not just LIC real estate that was going into the stratosphere, but Manhattan would benefit in many ways as well.
Start spreading the news....she’s leaving today....she’s going back to bar tending - AO..AOC... (sung to the tune of New York, New York).
Where do they get the nickname “Sandy:” for AOC?
