When a prominent Democrat has lost Chuck Todd, the handwriting is on the wall.
Three days ago, I predicted that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was sealing her fate when she took (and probably deserved) credit for killing the deal that would have brought 25,000 high-paying Amazon jobs to New York City. It's not that the young woman with boundless self-confidence in her views has no clue about how tax incentives work (though that is obviously true, since she crowed that the $3 billion in tax abatements could be spent on subways, schools, and the like). Ignorance and simple-mindedness are no obstacles to a Democrat winning approval from party bosses.
No, Sandy O's real infraction was in exposing and opposing the sweetheart deals between Democrats and the tech oligarchy. Both sides to the Grand Bargain see it as a key to their goals. The Democrats want and need the tech titans' thumbs on the scale in digital discourse and campaign donations from them. The new-age monopolists need antitrust protection for their market dominance, government contracts (see: Amazon's DOD cloud deal), and access so their concerns can be heard early, privately, and effectively, before the general public has a clue as to what is being protected, given away, or winked at.
Yesterday, we saw the first video fruits of Democrats' need to undermine and eventually unseat the Queens phenom on Meet the Press. Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and host Chuck Todd impugned her intelligence. Here is the full eight-minute segment:
The key moments making the same basic point I did in my blog three days ago, as summarized by Bruce Golding of The New York Post:

"Correct," de Blasio said.
He added: "And that $3 billion that would go back in tax incentives was only after we were getting the jobs and getting the revenue."
To further drive home the point, Todd said, "There's not $3 billion in money "
"There's no money right," de Blasio said.
Well, you know, since it was a couple of white guys criticizing her it must be...
Schumer, Deblasio, Todd, Bloomberg, all the New York rats are mad at that chick with the big teeth. They blame her for Amazon pulling out. The truth of the matter is OCasio Cortez was right. This was a big taxpayer waste of money. But it is ironically delicious when rats turn on other rats.
Right, the old white guy wing of the democrat party is ready and willing to impugn an up and coming Hispanic lady.
What “taxpayer money”? There was none, and the state and city agreed to forego some in exchange for development and lucrative jobs (on which both the city and state would reap income taxes).
I understand opposing it because it was basically expelling people from their neighborhoods, and it didn’t appear many of the residents would be qualified for those lucrative jobs; I don’t understand opposing it because the future revenues were too valuable. Many FReepers point out the real minimum wage is $0 - and that is what NY will get from this deal now.
This right here. AOC was right to oppose this deal. Lower your taxes, NY, and businesses would relocate there!
“This was a big taxpayer waste of money.”
Please explain how.
“This was a big taxpayer waste of money.”
Actually not.... It would have recouped multiple times that amount in time but as long as the Dems are eating their own, I’m cool with it
This is why it’s so easy for commies to talk fellow commies into arresting and executing other commies.
AOC has above average democrat IQ.
Don’t you love watching the left eat its own?
“Sandy O’”
There is a Cars song meme in there somewhere. Calling Ric Ocasek.
There was NO MONEY to waste you numbnutz. You are as dumb as kotex.
This was a 10% tax reduction, based on $30 Billion in taxes over ten years.
It would have generated $27 Billion in taxes and now it generates ZERO over ZERO years.
Are you a demonRAT or did you drink too much alcohol and addled your brain.
Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and host Chuck Todd impugned her intelligence.
That is pretty bad. ;^)
Regressives like the mayor of nyc are going to destroy companies so that there are no jobs in the first place, let alone $15 a hour jobs. And then they will blame the capitalist for ‘taking their ball and going home’ when it was the regressive who destroyed the company through the force of government.

The cum laude economics baccalaureate graduate of Boston College cannot even understand the econ 101 of tax incentives. There is no $3 billion for her pet projects, it’s an exemption to paying $3 billion in state taxes while employing 25,000 people that will also be paying taxes that might glean the $3 billion in ADDITIONAL revenue that may have gone to her pet projects. Boston College should be ashamed for graduating this mental midget.
