Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared victory when Amazon announced Thursday that it would not build a second headquarters (known as HQ2) in Queens, New York. Gov. Andrew Cuomo called it a “lost economic opportunity” and blamed “a small group [of] politicians [who] put their own narrow political interests above their community.”
The dispute between the two Democrats lays bare a divide over the plan to offer $2.8 billion in tax breaks for Amazon to establish a major presence in New York City.
On one side, old hands like Cuomo; on the other, the newly insurgent, left-leaning wing represented by Ocasio-Cortez.
“Today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers and their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation and the power of the richest man in the world,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. The new development would have been in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, near Ocasio-Cortez’s district.
The outspoken freshman Congresswoman was a critic of the deal Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio had brokered with Amazon.
Cuomo and other supporters of the project said that Amazon would have brought more than enough investment to the city to justify the tax breaks, and would have established New York as a tech hub to rival other hubs like San Francisco.
Additionally, he said, HQ2 would have brought “at least 25,000-40,000 good paying jobs for our state and nearly $30 billion dollars in new revenue to fund transit improvements, new housing, schools and countless other quality-of-life improvements.”

Now time for Cuomo/DiBlasio(sp?) to ‘cut off’ the Bronx from Sanctuary City, crack down on welfare & food stamp cheats etc AND openly ‘blame’ occassionalKotex and REALLY point out the loss of jobs/income/construction etc etc.
Am really surprised the UNIONS didn’t go ahead and let Amazon ‘rebuild’ Long Island City THEN ‘complain’ about Amazon non union state of mind.
The economic multiplier is 3:11. For every core job created like there 25,000 at Amazon, there will be 75,000 ancillary jobs created to support the core like barbers, cleaners, restaurants, transportation, service personnel. Didn’t Boston University teach you that in 4 years?

Are you kidding? Even a cursory glance at the last 20 years shows hows how each extreme leftist set the standard for the new “normal”. Bernie set the stage for AOC just a couple of years ago. Do you really doubt the “Cortez Socialist” will be the new Centrist of 3 years from now? And just what is AOC setting the stage for next?
Thousands of other jobs would have been created to service those employees. Scores of restaurants, bistros, gyms, coffee shops, bars, barber shops, etc., would have been opened in and around the new Amazon HQ. Thousands of units of new housing would have been built. Uber and Lyft drivers would be everywhere.

People like Ocasio-Cortez are such strange people. On the one hand, she wants to give jobs to everyone, good paying jobs she says, through the Green New Deal. Yet she opposes numerous jobs, many of which would pay six figure incomes, coming to her city from Amazon. Go figure.

Some liberal types say, that Cuba is so poor, because of the trade embargo against Cuba. I don’t believe that.
Then I wonder, if communism is such an ideal system to structure society and an economy, why would a good communist regime such as Cuba, need trade with an “evil capitalist” country such as America, in order to prosper? If communism is so superior, why is there such a history of the people in communist countries being so poor??

plus too many of the 25,000 new amazon jobs were $100,000/yr or more and not enough were $15/hr jobs ...
and this from an economic illiterate who SUPPOSEDLY graduated with a degree in economics from B.U. ... which also says a lot about the value of college degrees from B.U. ... AOC is a walking, talking advertisement for going to any university EXCEPT B.U. ...
