Ever wonder why people hate lawyers? Consider Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosensteins non-denial denial of his participation in discussions of an attempted coup against the duly elected president of the United States.
The story is being given a second life thanks to the hype surrounding the rollout of a new book by Andrew McCabe, the former deputy director of the FBI.
McCabe, of course, was fired after an inspector general investigation found that he leaked investigative information and then lied about it. He has been referred to the Justice Department for consideration of a false-statements prosecution.
There is no doubt that, when he was acting FBI director after President Trumps May 2017 firing of Director James Comey, McCabe huddled with Rosenstein to mull over options for removing the president from office.
But we have known this for six months ever since The New York Times published its bombshell report. Indeed, at the time, I wrote a column about it for National Review titled Rod Rosensteins Resistance weasel words, weasel moves from an emotionally overwrought deputy AG eager to ingratiate himself with Democrats.
There are really no new revelations in this weeks breathless reporting. The story is a retread, trotted out again because CBS is hoping to generate ratings for its 60 Minutes interview of McCabe on Sunday night, the launch of the McCabe book tour.
There has been a good deal of commentary this week about whether McCabe and Rosenstein were seriously brainstorming about a coup attempt; or whether, instead, discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment and possibly wiring up against the president (i.e., covertly recording him) were just graveyard humor. The truth is somewhere in the middle: The conversation was no joke, but the idea was lunacy.

Spicer being another Sessions type guy who will put on a MAGA hat at the same time as plotting his viper backstabbing lying POS moves?
Tucker Carlson said it best when interviewing someone who was trying to float a defense line for McCabe. That line was that McCabe and others were genuinely concerned that Trump was a Russian puppet and that Trump’s decision to fire Comey was obstruction of justice, and because they DECIDED NOT TO FOLLOW THROUGH shows they did nothing wrong. In other words, it’s ok to talk about plotting to overthrow the President of the United States if you are convinced the 25th Amendment allows you to do so.
So Tucker countered “So it’s ok for someone to think and talk about killing their spouse as long as it’s not actually done?”
And Tucker educated the misguided democrat about the history of the 25th and how it was to address incapacitation of President Woodrow Wilson due to a temporary illness where his wife ended up running the country for a few weeks.
McCabe is a lot dirtier than most Americans realize, MUCH dirtier. He is of the worst form of Dirty Cop.

they aren’t cabinet secretaries
Don’t forget about Seth Rich, someone should investigate his links to Wikileaks and his murder.
There all crooked lawyers and judges...who appointed these so called judges..
look at the history under Obama and Bush
Roberts is a cabal member by all appearances; else he would not have saved Obama care twice.
F that. Execute them.
Also, why haven’t we launched a Hellfire missile up Soros’s ass yet?
Won’t happen. Not one of those things.
We respected him
I have no idea what went on there. The appearance was/is that he just wasn't up to the job.
We may never know.
Every day nothing happens.
There's no 'outrage'. No calls for investigations or hearings. No demands for 'answers'.
It makes you wonder what's going on.
Is the Deep State so big it's undefeatable? Where are the good men of honor and integrity fighting to right the ship?
Yup.
How long before people start saying we need to get this behind us and move on?
EXACTLY!!
Why isn't Trump doing something?
Possibility for evaluation: Rosenstein played both sides of the street, engaging with McCabe and the coup plotters while also telling Trump in real time about at least some of their machinations. Trump keeps R on to “manage” the problem, while R continues to participate in the plotting.
This looks like a great opportunity for Republicans to go for the Democrats' jugular and snap their necks.
And yet nothing happens.
Unless there are things going on behind the scenes we don't know about it looks, I hate to say this, hopeless.
Andrew McCabe went on TV and admitted he was involved in a conspiracy to take down the President and all we get is silence.
But even that is telling.
After people started calling it was it was, an attempted coup, the story has practically disappeared.
If the McCabe revelations didn't wake people up and the media is now letting the story fade what hope is there?
"If the McCabe revelations didn't wake people up and the media is now letting the story fade what hope is there? "
It's just unbelieveable the way NO-ONE is doing ANYTHING.
(They're treating this as if they were errant schoolboys caught skipping a class)
“Is anyone going to do ANYTHING?”
The key here is what is contained in the Mueller report.
There has to be an executive summary, the conditions which started the investigation, the primary actors, the process followed, deciding factors and conclusion. There should also be a lessons learned page to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.
If anything in this report, whether conditions to start or deciding factors that conclude say anything about FISA being a reason, than the AG can ask for a new special counsel to review the FISA process, what happened and then if laws were broken, recommend a full criminal investigation.
I think this is what Trump is shooting for. If that becomes a reality, the entire Clinton Cabal will be taken down, just in time for the 2020 elections. Then it will be up to Clinton’s cronies to decide whether to implicate Obama in any of this.
I agree. It will happen after the President has won his second term and the MSM blowback won’t matter.
If Trump did release the FISA intel Mueller and others, knowing what Trump knows, could tailor their report to fit their 'facts' or make their 'facts' fit the report.
Without knowing the details this forces Mueller to play it safe and keep his final report more honest or at least 'middle of the road' objective.
It's a cat and mouse game but who is the cat and who is the mouse remains unclear.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s sad and tragic that we have to “move on” from any notion Cankles or any of her ilk will ever be prosecuted.
But that’s reality.
