Illinois legislators moved quickly Thursday to deliver one of new Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s top campaign promises, a gradual hike in the statewide minimum wage from $8.25 to $15 an hour — more than double the pay floor that most of its Midwestern neighbors require.
The state House voted 69-41 to send the Senate-approved plan to Pritzker, who watched the roll call from the House floor. He’d urged lawmakers to send him the legislation before next Wednesday, when he announces his first budget plan.
Republicans lashed out at Democrats for refusing to compromise and pushing too fast, particularly because the first wage increase wouldn’t occur until January. […]

They won’t get raises - and many people who currently earn less are going to find themselves out of jobs as companies wring more work out of their better employees to justify paying them $15 per hour. This probably leads to a very real case of “women and minorities hit hardest”, as companies that shrink their staffs to meet the higher hourly wage requirements are basically going to keep literate people with strong work ethics who won’t take maternity leaves.

Exactly!!!! Wait’ll they see the results from such a Stupid Decision. Even my wretched state of Californias’ elected officials put it to 15.00 an hour spread over several years, even though it’s still a 100% bad idea.
Wow. I don’t work in business, but what you say sounds right. Common sense would assume lots of negatives from this, but the Left just confidently charges over the cliff.
This is great news for Hammond and East Chicago, Indiana. All of the new jobs and redevelopment will be heading that way, fast.
Within a year, property values in one of the most depressed places in America will soar.
Illinois is the best thing that ever happened to Indiana.
All this does is hurts retirees still living in Chicago and other cities in their modest homes trying to maintain them. As well as startups of small businesses.

they need TAX revenue and it’s well documented that minimum wage hikes reduce employment (hence payroll taxes) ... not to mention this is going to drive even more businesses out of Illinois into Indiana, exacerbating the tax revenue problem even more ...
We have just got to stop legislating a minimum wage, and take the restrictions off so that anyone who wants to work can work.
Illinois businesses, move to Wisconsin because we are “open for business.” Oh, wait, Scott Walker lost and new Democrat Gov. Tony Earl has taken down those signs saying “open for business.” Elections matter, conservatives get your butts to the polls!

That (filling orders @ Mickey D's) would not be so hard to automate, when you get right down to it. Fewer mistakes on special orders (like "no onion") too.
